i enjoy watching KU throttle teams at the fieldhouse.  It really is something else.

It's really something. I'm getting tired of them winning the Big 12 every year though. It's bad for the conference when no one can unseat them.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Agreed. I don't mind them doing well because TSC and all, but if we could have a few people at the top in the public perception it helps the whole conference look deeper.

lol at the announcers last night saying Iowa State is KU's real rival in the BIGXII.

They said in basketball, and I agree with that statement.  I was discussing this with some fellow distinguished hawks yesterday, and we all agreed that, in recent years, we look forward to the ISU match-ups the most.  Leading up the KSU game on Saturday, I had been planning to be touring a brewery while the game was on, and the prospect of missing it live did not bother me all that much.

It's natural to come together with people you share a common bond with. KU and ISU are the bottom feeding hangalongs of the conference, so this makes sense.  Before you had your similarly situated suburban capitol city commuter college, who you happened to share a tireless devotion to racism with (Ku Mu).

It's the same reason attractive people marry one another (KSU and UT).

A Sweet 16 is pretty good. :dunno:

Granted, they have way different styles, but I think Drew and Hoi are pretty similar in the types of programs they are building. Both are going to regularly compete in the upper half of the league and regularly make a push in the tournament. Fans of all but a handful of NCAA programs should be more than happy to have coaches like those guys.

Sure, but we were talking KU rival territory.  That's not it.

Sure, but we were talking KU rival territory.  That's not it.

Perhaps, but the problem is to have a real rivalry the other team has to win once in a while. Since ISU had actually won two straight against them with last year's Big 12 tournament and this year in Ames, that was as competitive as any team had been against them.

Consider, since the beginning of their ten year title run (shared or not), these are the league teams and how many times they have beaten KU. (including Big 12 tourney games)

OSU - 5 (14, 13, 10, 08, 05)
KSU - 4 (14, 11, 08, 06)
ISU - 4 (15, 14, 12, 05)
MU - 4 (12, 09, 06, 05)
UT - 4 (14, 11, 08, 06)
BU - 3 (13, 12, 09)
Tech - 3 (09, 07, 05)
OU - 2 (13, 05)
WVU - 1 (14)
TCU - 1 (13)
aTm - 1 (07)

kayewe (thanks for this, Bread!) is like a great golfer at the top of his game.  It's not about playing or comparing yourself to others, it's about whether you yourself can achieve your own goals and beat your own "best."

Bill Self's personal live is the "yips" in this model, and as of right now, he seems to be controlling it.  Bravo to him.

Yeah, they don't have a rival.  Hoi has a long row to hoe.  To me you have to be both beating them occasionally and competing with them at the top of the standings.  Self is king of the hill in the Big 12, just throwing poor sons of bitches back down it once they make the infrequent climb to the top.  #peerless

important to note that bill self didn't even go to ku.
any success that he and ku have had are a product of oklahoma state, not the university of kansas.
boil it all down, oklahoma state has won 10 straight, not KthUg.

KU hasn't been seriously challenged for conference supremacy since Norm Stewart and Billy Tubbs in the Big 8.

I don't know how much room Hoi's system has for growth. It is almost the same every year. How does he get more talent into the system. No one can compete with Self's talent he has as much talent as the rest of the league combined. Huggs is the only guy I think who could knock him off. He forces other teams to play his way and how will KUs elite talent translate to that.

Hoiberg can get more talent in the system by recruiting better talent. He has plenty of room for growth.

KU did look a little shaky against ISU's press at the end of last night's game but they have almost 2 weeks to prepare as only the game in Stillwater on Saturday will require any prep

I think Huggins might get WVU to challenger status before hoiberg does.
