I found out a lot of my friends were dicks once, it hurts pretty bad.

Don't leave over pk bro.

I agree, that would be a mistake.

If anything,  I perceive CF3 as a very good real life example of how being enthusiastic about a specific religion is NOT a bad thing....like, he seems to do it the "right way," but I almost never read any Pit posts....so I assume CF3 is his same reasonable self in the Pit.

I am just really put off by groups that abuse their mission to promote a political agenda that I see as hateful, and as led by the CU coach guy, they seemed to have been doing that.

Doesn't mean CF3's dad's chapter was doing that, and doesn't mean CF3'd dad was like that...but there is no way I ever personally contribute to an organization like that, and unfortunately I will forever be suspicious of the organization as a whole....so if I am asked "what do you think of Promise Keepers," I guess I'd have to say "it depends."

I don't think there was a lot of over the top mockery or trolling. I openly question the need for such an event, but my perspective is skewed because the few men that I personally know who went to PK events were kind of crappy husbands and fathers, and they made big proclamations about how they were going to change their lives.  Two or three months later, it was back to the status quo.

I get that if you're into religion, it may help. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, support groups can help, too, but I guess my thought is that these sorts of things probably require regular meetings with a small group. Maybe that happens after these giant events.  I don't know.

The entire intent of the large events was to lead to regular small group meetings afterward. Far too often what you experienced happened though, guys had short term results just like you said and continued to be their same crappy selves soon after.

A big reason PK died is because guys would go to an event (or two or three) and no change took place. Sadly, too many Christians look for opportunities for political platforms and not to live a life that benefits those around them.

Never heard of it. Shocking hill to die on, in my opinion.

What percentage of rock bands ever get to play Cowboys Stadium?

And people wonder why no one PIs anymore... Pussification of America and gE, etc. Sorry CF3, you're usually one of my favorites, but the pit, and gE in general is (and needs to be) a terrible place to have thin skin.
:adios:

I have too weak of skin too, I think.  That's why I gave up the Pit long, long ago.  My life was better for it.

Saw that earlier.  Right in the heart of summer KATPAK convention season too!

The ShoWare Center is no Cowboys Stadium though.  Using this picture for their event in Kent is like using a glamour shot of Anderson Hall to promote an event in Wamego.

Well, this under the picture of what appears to be a screen shot of Call of Duty is disturbing.

BATTLE LINES: No Compromise!

Today’s culture nurtures a popular misconception that tolerance is the only reasonable worldview. Unfortunately, this spirit of compromise on key moral and biblical issues has permeated both our culture and the church. Divorce and co-habitation rates continue to rise. Same-sex marriage is now accepted and abortion is still legal in our nation. Scripture is quite clear how we are to respond whenever the foundations of the Christian faith are under attack: our duty is to contend for the faith, without compromise.

That's kind of effed up.  They look like they're a quasi-militant Christian Fundamentalist group.

Yeah, the military connection is disturbing to me too.
