We'd have to win the rest of OOC and then go 12-6 in conference just to get to 20 wins. Think about that for a sec and realized how truly effed we are.
We would have to become the most inaccurate KenPom analysis/prediction in history, right?
I doubt it, we still have 2/3 of the season left.
Also, while I'm pretty discouraged about how this season has started, I think this team will get better. Probably not NCAA tournament, but I think .500 in the league is still a reasonable expectation.
I agree. I really think this team will get better as the year progresses. I am really hoping a combination of having a lot of new faces, and a lot of road games to start the season are causing the problems. I'm hoping that a few "easier" home games will allow the players to establish their roles and figure out how to run the offense together.
My faint reasons for some semblance of optimism...
Opponent's eFG% and 2PT% (and thus overall defensive efficiency to a lesser extent) are well above any other oscar team except when he was at Southern Illinois. I think in Big 12 play this will come back down (improve) toward his average. I think this group is having trouble with all the man pressure concepts he and Lowery use and eventually they will get it.
One key feature of oscar's success as a coach has been 3 PT shooting and its reasonable to expect this team to be a solid 3PT shooting team and one of the best oscar has had. We know that Foster can shoot, hopefully Harris earns more minutes because he is a weapon, and Johnson and Thomas look to be improved enough to be threats. Edwards is struggling a lot, but he's 2-5 of his last 3 games, so maybe that's a sign he's figuring things out a bit.
Our rate of TOs (currently 22%) should improve as well. Only 3 other oscar teams have finished over 20% for TOs, I think our guards will get better and with it our offense overall. We are shooting, boarding, and getting to the FT line at solid rates, TOs are really the biggest problem right now.
