I'm changing my prediction to last in the Big 12 and a CBI invitation.

I dont think we'll get an invite anywhere.  :frown:

The CBI is pretty much a pay to play tournament, so it could happen. I would hope if this program is ever in that situation that they'll decline.

So it is a known goal that 20 wins gives you a chance at he NCAA. . .how many more games do we need to win to make the NIT?

I'm not sure 20 wins is a good standard anymore for the NCAA since everyone plays some sort of holiday/preseason tournament.

You've got to be above .500 and have some decent wins to get selected by the NIT. The NIT has their own selection committee with seeding now, so you just don't get invited if it looks like you can sell tickets for home games as a power 5 school.

Lame. I used to think that the NIT was more about teams that had talented players on teams with recognizable brands who underperformed all year.

I think it pretty much is now. Plus mid majors that win their league, but not their league tournament.

We'd have to win the rest of OOC and then go 12-6 in conference just to get to 20 wins. Think about that for a sec and realized how truly effed we are.

We would have to become the most inaccurate KenPom analysis/prediction in history, right?

I doubt it, we still have 2/3 of the season left.

Also, while I'm pretty discouraged about how this season has started, I think this team will get better. Probably not NCAA tournament, but I think .500 in the league is still a reasonable expectation.

So. . .we get swept by KU, UT, and ISU and split with Baylor, West Virginia, and OU. That puts our conference record at 9-9.

Final record 18-13.

Top 4 seed in the NIT.

Extra home game at the Fred.  :excited: :bball:

I agree. I really think this team will get better as the year progresses. I am really hoping a combination of having a lot of new faces, and a lot of road games to start the season are causing the problems. I'm hoping that a few "easier" home games will allow the players to establish their roles and figure out how to run the offense together.

My faint reasons for some semblance of optimism...

Opponent's eFG% and 2PT% (and thus overall defensive efficiency to a lesser extent) are well above any other oscar team except when he was at Southern Illinois. I think in Big 12 play this will come back down (improve) toward his average. I think this group is having trouble with all the man pressure concepts he and Lowery use and eventually they will get it.

One key feature of oscar's success as a coach has been 3 PT shooting and its reasonable to expect this team to be a solid 3PT shooting team and one of the best oscar has had. We know that Foster can shoot, hopefully Harris earns more minutes because he is a weapon, and Johnson and Thomas look to be improved enough to be threats. Edwards is struggling a lot, but he's 2-5 of his last 3 games, so maybe that's a sign he's figuring things out a bit.

Our rate of TOs (currently 22%) should improve as well. Only 3 other oscar teams have finished over 20% for TOs, I think our guards will get better and with it our offense overall. We are shooting, boarding, and getting to the FT line at solid rates, TOs are really the biggest problem right now.

Dang,  I expect this team to win, especially at home big time.  Break out the super oscar Juice we are headed for 5th in the Big 12, and an seeded 11 in tournament.  If not, then things will get uglier.

how is this team supposed to be "better" as it works its way through the Big 12?  We are the only team with 4 losses in the big12, the next closest is OU @ 6-2...and then everyone else has one loss...except freaking TCU which is undefeated.

I just....yeah, we can shoot it better from 3, we can defend better, we can turn it over less....but we'll be doing it against arguably a tougher schedule.  And it isn't like we've been able to take Brucesketball on the road, we're something like 6-15 in away/neutral games over the last two years (and last year our only conf wins on the road were TCU and Tech). We really haven't played very good basketball for a while now.  Since the beginning of February of last year, we're 10-11.

Good teams have beaten Savannah State by at least 40 points this year, something tells me that we might not be a good team.
