Stop over analyzing that win and under analyzing our win. We were with OU till the 4th. We loaded up on D and the offense is coming back. Not worried.

It doesn't really matter if they played at full effort or not(I think they did), that's still an extremely impressive win over a team with backups that would be our starting group and full of NFL talent.

And OU isn't stocked with similar talent?   No idea how old you are but a perfect example a team not giving a eff was the KSU Wildcats v Purdue in 98.  No way Purdue was better than the Cats but they sure whipped our asses.

I think it's pretty dumb to say Bama wasn't motivated.

Sams is practicing with the WR's.

He is also running some "wildcat" snaps during scrimmages.

Great point.  Kids that are accustomed to playing in the BCS CG for the crystal football were probably extra excited to get to play in one of the meaningless exhibition games.

why are bowl games "meaningless exhibition games" except for when our KSU catz are playing in them?  I mean, our recent Cotton and Fiesta Bowls weren't MEGs.  In fact, these games seemed very meaningful for most everybody on this Board.  Double in fact, if any team viewed the games as meaningless, it would have been Arkansas and Oregon, moreso than us.  And we still got dick punched by both teams.  so.  moral of the story.  good teams are good.

Now, more about Sams and the Wildcat.

People are discounting how well Snyde-dog plays in Norman.  We almost won there in 2009 for crying out loud.

Great point. Kids that have been coached to expect to win, and play for championships probably have a problem bringing it for every game. They particularly have a problem getting up for an elite caliber bowl game against a traditional blue blood from another power conference.

i gotta admit, "alabama wasn't motivated to play in that BCS game" in order to somehow downgrade OU for preseason confidence seems like something i would read on GPC

Yeah, I agree, 'blast. However, the '98 cats kinda make me feel like it could be a thing. That was a great win for OU tho.

yes and also like half our coaching staff announced they were leaving before the game.  Mangino announced he was leaving after but apparently he had already planned on leaving before.  I don't remember anything like that happening with Alabama.   In addition we were facing Drew Brees who is probably one of the 5 best QB's of the last 20 years or so.

found that game on-demand a couple months ago and watched it (not sure why i did that to myself).  Even though I was in attendance at the game, when I re-watched I realized how completely wrong I remembered it.  As I remembered it, despite making a ton of stupid mistakes (adversity) we overcame adversity and put ourselves in position to win, except then made more stupid mistakes.  Totally wrong - we pretty much just got our dicks kicked in.  Made the game somewhat interesting towards the end but it was never really in question.

While I wholeheartedly agree with you here, the point is that when the dream/goal all season was the BCS championship, a certain level of disappointment in NOT playing for the crystal football is to be expected.  Thus, the level of focus/motivation across the entirety of the team decreases.

I remain firmly of the belief that had the OU vs Bama game been the BCS title game that Bama likely covers the 14 pt spread.  As it was, playing OU +14 was a no-brainer... Just like it was a no brainer to play Utah plus 14 vs Bama in the '09 Sugar that the Utes won 31-17.  I think we all saw what Bama did to a Notre Dame team that won in Norman when it was for a crystal football.

So, wait, if someone is super favored to win, then they aren't motivated, and therefore more likely to get their dicks kicked in?  Why doesn't Vegas just factor that in?

If we win, will it be because OU wasn't motivated and didn't put much effort into the game?

I can't imagine how bad life is when you're left with nothing but trolling your non rivals board.   I'm just glad there's no college baseball blog or I'd probably be over there, just BMW'ing it all the time.
