WOW, this thread is bumming me out.  Though not as cool as the thought of going to a Natty'Ship, I like to remember the 2003 BigXII Championship where we utterly destroyed Oklahoma.  Took the outright National Championship from them and won our first conference trophy.  I remember sitting in the stands of Arrowhead and watching grown Oklahoma men wearing their stupid turtlenecks and visors crying in disbelief.  And the Sooners fans still bitch about that every so often.  Brings a tear to my eye really.

um, they still played for the national championship game.

You're absolutely right, I'll shut up now.

not until we win one, or until something similar and a worse pain comes around.

Don't mean to be a downer, but from a realist standpoint, are we just riding the tail end of the LHC Bill Snyder era by trying to make the job as appealing as possible (expansions to the facilities and city) to a future coach hire?  Bill is amazeballs and there is no denying that, but looking ahead I think a fresh start with a proven commodity at coach is what the KSU cats need to be perennial contenders.

From that perspective. . .what do we need to have completed and ready? As I understand it the common gE theory is that the Snyder replacement is what Currie is sticking around for before heading off to greener pastures.  So what does ol' Jon Jon have up his sleeve?

It doesn't make sense to me that he would stick around longer just to hire a new coach if he plans on leaving the program to which the coach was hired to shortly after.

Bill is going to try and wait out Currie.  Currie will want to make the hire from outside to make a good impression for the next school and Bill wants to make the decision himself (Sean).

I feel like Currie is here for the long haul. I don't think he leaves any time soon.

Sean will be worse than Ron
Agreed.  Would like ADJC to stick around a few years after the hire - a hire that involves LHCBS's influence but is not Sean - and would like Sean to stay on the staff and continue to serve as both special teams coach and head of football operations within the program.  I think this is the best outcome.

Also, not sure if Sean would even want the HC job anyway.
I’ve started to kind of hate people, and it’s not because I have anything against them. It’s just, I enjoy it. It’s recreation.

How high do you think Sean would leap if offered the HC job?   Best guesses indicate it would look like this:

'12 doesn't hurt near as much as '98. Baylor loss was semi-explainable (not the blow out) since we had injuries at key positions (Zimmerman/Lockett were out)

The '98 double OT loss to A&M can be blamed on a Bishop fumble after we converted the third down conversion

Also, our defense packed it in after that.

12 Hurts way worse because I wasn't a tiny little baby who thought we would have 100s of more shots at a Natty.

IMO this is an awesome scenario. Both try to wait each other out and stick around forever until we have to wheel both of them out of Vanier like it's weekend at Bernie's.
