Great thread.  Maybe we should talk about 9/11 and cancer and stuff.

Even if when we win one, it will be bittersweet knowing Collin, Arthur, and Chris and that group (and most likely Bill) didn't. That team (tucks in shirt) exemplified K-State and "the Snyder way" as well as any team; it would've been the perfect culmination of events. I can't imagine a more story-book ending. (Untuck) But that team was beat soundly twice, so that eases the pain a bit.

Am I the only one who doesn't usually feel badly for the players or coaches? If they had wanted to accomplish it, maybe they shouldn't have fumbled, or thrown interceptions, or missed tackles, or implemented asinine game plans. It's not that I'm mad at them; it's just that they had an actual opportunity to impact how the game turned out, and they failed in some way, so they kind of "earn" the result. :dunno:

1998 jaded me so much that 2012 didn't really register that highly on the disappointment scale.

No, I agree that's probably the rational and healthy approach. But as a fan, by definition, I'm neither of those things much of the time.

I don't think it's been mentioned, but I remember seeing Ell on the turf holding his hand during the McNeese State game and feeling a sense of dread that something special that was going to happen wasn't going to happen anymore.

yeah.  that marshall/ut/osu stretch was so tough.  that team had a ton of potential.

So lucky I didnt go through 1998, and the offensive game plan for Baylor was awful.  We threw with Collin way too much even though it was clear his wrist or whatever injury he had hadnt recovered.  He wasnt the same after OSU.

The injury was sketti brains.

It wasn't a once in a lifetime chance. We'll have seasons like this again.

Agreed.

It's going to happen sooner than people think too.

Baylor game was the worst night of my life (excluding family deaths)

WORST. BIRTHDAY. EVER  :Crybaby: :bawl:

I reached out and touched the fridge with one arm,  rested my head on my shoulder, and looked down.  I didn't cry, but meditated for a minute or two.  It was upsetting, but I just grabbed another beer after that and moved on.

Like you have no idea, I was hoping that this would be THE best birthday ever. A decent winnable game against Baylor, cruise by Texas (we own them,) and go to the Natty! And they lost. I was never so sad. I was more sad than if my family forgot my birthday. I'll never forget. Winters knows my pains and feels.

WOW, this thread is bumming me out.  Though not as cool as the thought of going to a Natty'Ship, I like to remember the 2003 BigXII Championship where we utterly destroyed Oklahoma.  Took the outright National Championship from them and won our first conference trophy.  I remember sitting in the stands of Arrowhead and watching grown Oklahoma men wearing their stupid turtlenecks and visors crying in disbelief.  And the Sooners fans still bitch about that every so often.  Brings a tear to my eye really.

You think you had it bad.  The night of the game I was at my in-laws.  Mostly lovable old folks, but not that night!  They laughed at every mistake the Katz made.  Cheered Baylor like the were true fans.  I would have been better off at an all KU bar, than there.  They did it just to spite me.  I was so upset and miserable that we left very early the next morning and I have never been back.   :frown:
Hot time in Kat town tonight.

I really don't think we will. It's insanely difficult to even get that close and we had to have one of the greatest coaches of all time, a Heisman finalist at QB and the greatest linebacker in our history even do that. I mean, who's the most small timey school to even play for the MNC in the last 50 years? Virginia Tech? I'm just happy we're as relevant at we are and not resigned to the same fate as the Iowa States of the world.

As long as we don't make a Ron Prince like hire, we will have these kinds of seasons again, especially with all the facilities upgrades and campus growth.

there is a very very good chance we don't come that close to a natty again. Sorry for being a downer, but it's true.

Why?  BS leaves?  The program is going upwards facilities wise and recruiting wise, we'll have years like 12 again.

The 2012 with a non-bellrung Klein was as good as any in the country. You saw glimpses of it in the first half of the Fiesta Bowl.  Sure, we got down early, but that first half was a heavyweight fight, no doubt.

Also, I don't know why I don't use this .gif more often.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
