I don't agree at all. I think he could be a really good WR (since he already has been).

not at this level.

Why not?

Plus the dynamics of a Wildcat package could be even better since Sams will be on the field all the time anyway. Teams couldn't adjust their personnel  and scheme as easily like they did as the season went along when Sams came on the field.

he's not particularly fast and hasn't shown he can catch.

I think if Bill wants to win next year and the following year (and give himself or the next guy a shot after that) somehow, someway, Sams needs to be the backup next year.  However I understand that Sams might say "i'm playing somewhere or i'm leaving".  And bill might be stupid enough to let him walk.  For the long term though, Sams needs to be a QB.

If we don't have a capable one in Ertz or a new guy then its a no deal for me too FWIW. This is all predicated by having a capable back up if Sams spends most of his time working on being a receiver.

We've had plenty of good receivers who weren't "particularly fast", and we don't know if he can catch or not.

I am of the belief that he is injured or never really recovered from whatever he had prior to the season.  he looked so much slower than last year.  I would not be surprised if he has minor off season surgery to clean something up in his knees.

well I tend to assume that people who haven't shown those things will be below average receivers rather than above average receivers. Statistics, ya know?

I don't understand worrying about a "just in case" backup QB scenario over getting your best players onto the field any given play.  Don't sacrifice the here and now reality for a worst case scenario.

I like the idea at having him at other positions and also using the wildcat.  Seems Snydery.

The importance of him being a backup next year is so that he takes over his SR year.

This is what will prevent him from moving next year.  Does anyone really think Snyder would put his starter and best back up on the field if there is not another option at qb?

I would prefer him at QB. But I prefer him on the field rather than him not on the field.

I agree with this.

But I don't agree with building for 2 years from now. If we can win next year and Sams at receiver gives us the best shot, you do it. Especially if we think Ertz can play (and he was a very good HS player). Plus this board would be more fun with back to back white Iowans at QB, especially if we are pretty good. :D

My point is that Sams isn't a "best player" unless he's at QB.

Sams made big improvements at QB this yr.  Dont like how this is being ignored.  I still think he deserves a shot to beat Jake out this offseason.

We aren't building for 2yrs from now, we are succession planning (not only for Sams, but for Sharp).  All bill needs to do is recruit some WR's, not move QB's to WR.

I agree with all that, I just think at this point it will be really hard for him to beat out Waters. And that's a credit to Waters, not a discredit to Sams. I think Sams has a bright future at K-State regardless.

Still think Sams shouldve taken the reigns after Baylor and OSU.  Ridiculous.  I dont really see how Waters was above average.  He missed the curl all yr, and his second best game, OU, was mostly Lockett just destroying DBs.

Perhaps, I don't know why he didn't. Seems to me the heavy use of Sams coincided with Lockett's injury as much as anything, when Lockett became healthy again this became (mainly) Waters' team again. We can only speculate as to why and I won't go into "Snyder knows more" rationale.

However, it seem clear to me the direction that this staff wants to go at QB unless Sams had an injury that reduced his snaps down the stretch. I'm just discussing the options if that is the case. If Sams comes back and beats Waters out, so be it.

It's amazing what a win against a michigan team with a god awful defense can do for your confidence.

For a guy that has the rep of being such an innovator, it was disappointing to me how limited we were with the use of a dynamic player.

Let's get back to discussing what our record will be next year.

I see the UT and BU games as key games.

Both may have new coaches.

An interesting research project would be to find out how well new coaches do against Snyder.  I suppose you would have to throw out KU and possibly Baylor to control for poop situations.
