HOAs run by old people are entirely about controlling younger people who can't afford to live someplace nicer. They use the guise of property value to issue their complaints, but really why would an old person care about that? They are either going to die in that house or at the nursing home. They aren't selling.

Yes. I'd say half your neighbors are just getting used to the idea of aerial antennas, they probably don't know why you'd put something you eat off of on your house.

This is way outside my area of practice but, yeah, I think you're right, the FCC generally prohibits HOA restrictions on antennas and satellite dishes. Read more here: http://www.burdmanlaw.com/satellitenv.pdf. I had no idea.

Word of advice, though, don't get cross-wise with you HOA if you can avoid it. Be polite. Point out the law, but offer to move the dish if you reasonably can.
