I move toward poverty and danger.  If I don't feel like I'm in constant danger of my property being vandalized or my wife raped then I'm packin' my crap up and movin' on down that line.  At any given moment I had best feel like someone is going to break into my home and do bad things to me and my stuff or I'm just not living right.  Also, I really need the neighborhood to look like total crap.  Just rough ridin' terrible shape; beat the eff down, you know?  Would be good to have a few sex offenders around as well now that I have an heir.  New dimension, gotta add it to the paradigm.  Where you live should be as miserable and depressing as possible or you're not doing it right in my book, and my book is REAL sons.

I'm pretty racist against people who pack up and run deeper into the burbs at the first sign of an overgrown hedge. I don't think I would want any of "these people" in this thread to be my neighbors.

Yeah, that happens all the time.

It's what this whole thread is about!

I thought it was about every idiot thinking they lived in the best neighborhood when in reality their neighborhood is exactly the same as every other neighborhood.

PS: lotta white flight in this thread

I'm getting a strong sense of that, too. It's pretty mumped up really that in 2013 people (at least Kansas people, anyway) are still so racist that a black family moving into a neighborhood immediately reduces the home values of the entire neighborhood.

Poor trashy white people renting homes have the same effect on property values.  It isn't the rough ridin' color you racist dumbass, it's the tax bracket.  When people start renting their homes to poor people who treat the property like crap, then there goes the neighborhood.  It isn't difficult to follow.

SME: 1.6% black
SMN: 9.24% black
SMNW: 7.7% black
SMS: 8.16% black
SMW: 12.38% black

It's all the same school district, but for some reason the properties that allow you to send your kids to SME are worth way more than those that send your kids to the other schools.

Agreed.  You gotta feel like your neighbors DON'T GIVE A eff about their house.  It's just grown to crap and it's even better if their is a consant threat of harm to person/property.

I think proximity to the Plaza/downtown area has something to do with it, NK.

I have no idea what those percentages are supposed to demonstrate, and yet I am positive they don't prove what you think they do.

I like them to have tons of kids too that are left to do as they please.  Also a number of possibly dangerous canines that aren't supervised or trained.  Oh and I like for them to spend as much time as possible in the neighborhood itself.  Like basically don't ever leave it if at all possible.  And be outside as much as possible too.  Pretend like there is no such thing as in doors.  Constantly be in my face with their existence.  Heck yes.

Increased transient foot traffic is always a bonus for any neighborhood worth its salt.

the schools need to formally be NOT accredited by the state.  I need my kids keeping it real as crap and learning from the hardscrabble conditions.  They will thank me when they graduate that I placed them in a school with a very high drop out rate.

Get a load of Captain Gentrification over here.  Maybe not causal, but certainly correlated.  You wouldn't know a damn thing about it out there in your ivory tower, perfect sunshine ocean bay, whitey festival existence.  So rough ridin' affluent I'd like to puke.

- I wouldn't live with your mom but that's just me.

- if you can afford it, pay people to do it.

- who gives a crap what district you're in, it's up to your kids how successful they'll be, not the district.

- the only thing worse than kc neighborhood talk is weirdo mhk/ict folks bitching about kc neighborhood talk.

no trust me it isn't. you idiots are insufferable and talk about it constantly. def runner up for me though is the weird and slightly uppity mhk mom/dad that thinks there is an actual difference between the level of education their kid will receive at one of the local grade schools.

"yeah, we moved to so and so street so our kid could go to amanda arnold instead of lee".

i mean that is very lol as well. but there aren't as many of them and they aren't all over message boards endlessly debating the various merits of marlatt vs northview like the kc people do about the olathe and shawnee mission highschools, so it doesn't bother me as much.

Seriously.  Bread calls it.

hey bread, I am going to build a chicken coop in my backyard this weekend using only artisnal hand tools from the early 19th century and constructed entirely out of reclaimed wood, can you come over to help?  It is going to look like a pile of moldy driftwood.  Should be great.  I'd say we should wrap up before 6:30 though due to the possibility of drifter attacks after dusk.

Only if I can bring a twelver of PBR tall boys.  I might need to pick up a pack of American Spirits, dunno.  You know I can't get down on some serious elitist crafting unless I have the appropriate all-natural cig.

Yeah, I mean I assume they'll be able to handle the spelling bee, kickball and coloring between the lines etc.
