I bet if KU went 5-7 this year and got a bowl invite they would take it in a heartbeat.
They're awful butthurt on the phog that we get to go to a bowl. I mean, I think that hurts them worse than going 0-12, or, not winning a conference road game in 6 seasons. Seriously.

Cost of mediocrity9:27 AMAssuming our administration and fan base is content with mediocrity, which is what a 5 or 6 win season really is, take a look at what exceeding that expectation could mean. Right now, we get around $25 million per year from the conference payout even when we SUCK at football. Assume that at only a marginal bowl game payout of (for example the Cactus Bowl pays $3.3 million per team) even if we are good. We keep half and the conference gets half = $1.6 million + additional revenueWe are getting around 22,000 paid fans for games with fewer actually showing up. What if success doubled that to 44,000 paid attendance? Average ticket price of $40 x 22,000 additional per game ($880,000) x 6 home games per season = $5.3 million additional revenue. This is before other ancillary income from merchandise sales, game day concessions. etc. Figure those as $100,000 per game even though reality is they would be much higher - $600,000 additional revenue.Just these three things resulting from being a decent, not great team, could potentially result in $7.5 million in additional KUAD income annually. Allocate $100 million for a NEW stadium seating around 45k fans. Bond payments covering interest would be around $4 million per year. That leaves $3.5 million PLUS the $800k we currently pay for a HC = $4.3 million. Whatever isn't used can go towards amortizing the stadium debt with donors and Williams Fund contributors paying the rest.Obviously these are back of the napkin numbers but it can't be that difficult to get hard numbers that are likely even better and would justify increased spending on our football program .Last edited 12/03/2015 7:29 AMby goldwingRate now: ReubenJCogburnKU CommitRating: 3.1/5 this site903 posts this siteXRe: Cost of mediocrity9:29 AMActually I'd be quite pleased with mediocrity. What we have is gut-wrenching, hopeless futility.Rate now: HokkenAll StarRating: 2.7/5 this site20431 posts this siteXAvatarRe: Cost of mediocrity9:56 AMReubenJCogburn wrote: Actually I'd be quite pleased with mediocrity. What we have is gut-wrenching, hopeless futility.Boom. KU football has an average of 1.9 conference wins in the Big 12 ............to lazy to look up Baylor, but pretty sure they are the worst team in the history of the Big 12.
interesting if true on baylor

We will know they are serious about football when there is a mysterious arson that burns their fb stuff to the ground. Lawrence loves arson for insurance(from what a few Lawrence bros tell me). Would be the most likely way for them to actually come up with some money to build, too.

Also it's mostly concrete so, gonna take a lot of gasoline to get the dumpster fire hot enough to burn that bitch down. I bet they can figure it out though.

They don't deserve to go any more than KU does.Did you watch the game on Saturday? KSU looked like a bowl-caliber team. Yes I know we are terrible, but honestly out of all KU's opponents I thought only Baylor played a more complete game against us. While I certainly don't believe KSU is a top tier big XII team, they could have been 7-5 or 8-4 if not for a few bad breaks.Yeah, I watched the game and saw how many mistakes and turnovers we gifted them to create that point spread. I thought KSUck was (and is) very unimpressive no matter how bad that makes our 'Hawks sound. Hope WVU thrashes the Hell outta them this weekend.KSU is 1-5 vs bowl-eligible teams this year, with the only win over LA Tech in triple OT. I don't think it's a stretch to think they're not very deserving of a bowl game this season.

I mean, they can't get upside down on a arson job. They need that insurance to rebuild.
