I've got Cox for everything and it's fine.  Likely all I could do in my building without it being a pain in the ass.  Just got a deal on amazon where I got the new Madden game plus the whole season of NFL Sunday ticket that I can watch on computer or DirecTV apps on ipad/phone for $100 total.  I don't really get into NFL huge nor play video games much, but that seemed like a good deal, and I've got credit card spends to hit.  Ordered one of those back-ordered chromecast things too which I think will make it so I'll have this on TV after all.

I just got two quotes online (century link and direct tv) and told them the price I was quoted and asked if they could match it. they were like, "service, tho" and I was like, "money, tho" and they offered me 30% off my bill. was really pud.

did you make sure the service was totally comparable or did they not seem to care?

That's probably because you have a fantastic speaking voice.  They couldn't help but do your bidding.  "Ooh, what's this? Honey in my ear from the phone? Nope just loyal customer steve dave asking for a discount."  Don't expect similar results mikey.

When I called Cox the first thing I said was that I'd like to schedule a turn-off date because I was switching to Directv. Then they told me that I was a valuable customer and they told me that I could have 40% off my bill for 1 full year. I told them that that sounded okay and that I would keep their service at that rate. I can't wait until a year from now when my rate goes back up and I get to have this wonderful conversation again.

i worry too much.  i feel like if i called and asked for a turn-off date, they'd be like "ok, cool, you're all set" and then i'm left with either having to call them back and "change my mind" or get some difference service (that i can't get because i live in podunk)

its mandatory for them to make you say that youre sure you want to quit at least 40 times

They might know that you don't have options.  Risky.  That customer service person is going to big dick you right over the phone and you'll just have to take it.  Probably the highlight of their job when people like you call in and they can tell you to get mumped.  "Is that right, sir? Maybe we'll go ahead and up the rate for you if you'd like to come back. Loser."  :ohno:

everyone has satellite as an option. And cancelling just because "its not worth it" is an option. all are equally effective cover stories.

I call every year. It's worth it to pretend you want to cancel service. Just got $20 off my internet bill last week.

I think so.  You can go on AT&T's website and punch in your address to check availability.  You might be able to bullshit them with the satellite story as well.  If they give you crap about internet, just tell them you are thinking about upping the data plan on your phone and using it as a hotspot.
