Robert Lipscomb and I believe that K-State baseballs prospects improved with the departure of Nebraska to the Big 10. The Big 10 has been pretty bad in baseball and we could have even more recruiting success up north.

Some of these Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota kids are trying to stay as close to home as they can but want to play in a warmer weather conference.

How does the mlb draft work?  If a player gets drafted, but comes back to school, he will just get re-drafted next year?

Sorry, haven't really followed college baseball much

If they choose not to sign, they just get reentered into the draft pool next season. Have to be a Jr to be drafted if you are at a 4-yr school...JUCO kids can be drafted after Frosh or Soph year.

This link shows the slot values assigned by MLB for the first 10 rounds..

http://ht.ly/k7AbT

146 Mets $330,800 - King
291 Indians $138,100 - Kivett

Neither of these players are looking at 'life changing' bonuses...both could receive a signing bonus offer higher than these values, since they are college Jr's, and have a lot of leverage in negotiations, but I'd say max for these guys is $500k for King & $250k for Ross. King could easily sneak into the top-2 rounds next year, so his ROI for coming back would be huge. Conlon would be lucky to get an offer of $75k from the Royals, as they've used about half of their $8M allotment on their first 3 picks alone, and are notorious under GMDM for spending $$ not spent in the draft on Latin American talent, so they don't have a lot of motivation to offer tons of $$ for mid-round picks.

Personally, I think the three of them look at the pitching & other pieces we have coming back and will all return to MHK to defend the title & get to Omaha in '14

COUNTERPOINT

If the Mets are as convinced in Kings talent as their blogging community, they may offer a solid above-slot bonus.

Kivett will be tempted to sign with his home town team, regardless of bonus amount...

Well, OU is just going to have to pick up the scraps Wichita State leaves, since that's the more prestigious job
