If what Greg is saying is true about Gene, that's pretty sad.

K-State baseball, despite being ass, regularly draws 6K people to the K-State campus on a conference series weekend.  That's an opportunity to market and sell the K-State brand to a nice chunk of folks during a relatively slow time of the year for K-State athletics from a fan interest perspective.

I'm not the least bit surprised that K-State athletics is still up to its insular ways.  For years they had all kinds of resources available to them from campus to help in various ways and I doubt KSA reached out or ever did much with it.

It's always been that way at K-State, and it's probably that way at other schools as well and it's always been super super weird to me.

BTW, K-State spent more on baseball last year than KU.  Not much more, but still more.

K-State spent $2.67 million on baseball.

OU (for example) spent $4.2 million on baseball.

But I'm also a believer that the budget is what you deserve.  If K-State ever hires a baseball coach that does good things, then that budget will go up.  With what Gene is paying Pete, K-State would draw plenty of attention from coaches who are much better than Pete.

As just one example, K-State alum/hearthrob Rob Vaughn - who has more conference titles (1) and nearly as many NCAA berths in five years as a head coach compared to Hughes' 25 years as a head coach - makes a measely 300k per year.

He's a dream boat.

But apparently Gene doesn't care so that's why we have cellar dweller Pete Hughes.

The Analytics team will die this year because of lack of interest/new graduates.

This is surprising and sad. I've seen schools with sports analytics clubs who you would easily be able to pluck some students from. Perhaps K-State doesn't have much of a Stat department.
SO we tried doing this last year and we have contacted the business/stats department to get some students but since there was no money involved it is really hard to get students to help out during games. If you all know some alumni who might be interested in funding the group or helping out we would love the contact.

I’m glad Greg got @‘d by JamSam and restored some of his credibility bc right now I’m thinking about how this time last year Greg was crowing about how good the booze cats were going to be and we started the season like 0-10 or some crap
Lmao i worked for the team last year was I supposed to act like they were gonna be dogwater? I worked with the guys everyday. You have to make them think they are the best in order to perform at their best. It sucks yeah but you have to get in a positive mindset. There are so many variables in the college game that can change but coaching needs to be the number one thing that the administration should care about. We also have the least amount of money allocated to the sport in the entire Big 12 and just checked the new Big 12
If we were going to be dogwater, then on this blog, yes you should've acted like that.

The Big 12 only has three teams in the preseason top 25, which is probably somewhat of an indicator that the league is a bit down this year.

So, when Hughes leads his team to yet another bottom half finish in the league (preseason pick No. 7), we'll know it's even less impressive than usual.

The season starts with a 4-game series at a terrible Stephen F. Austin program next Friday - let the excitement commence.

greg what kind of stuff do the batcats need scouted? i assume its primarily their pitchers and bullpen but like, tell me what i'm look for and i will do some advanced scouting and report back. I have espn+ so i'm guessing i should have access to most if not all big12 games

Awful.

This kid was a highly touted true freshman who suddently transfered to a juco a month ago. He's already played in a bunch of games at juco - including one just 3 days ago. I guess we know why he transferred...

In other news, the Bat Cats survive 7-6 in game one against a terrible SFA team thanks to a truly horrendous double play in the bottom of the 9th where SFA had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and their guy on 3rd got caught in a rundown on a potential sacrifice fly to right field. We got out hit 11-6, our opening day starter was torched for 5 runs in 3 innings and we struck out 15(!) times against pitchers who struggled to get above the low 80s.

A win is a win, but it's going to be a long year.

The game action was fuzzy, but that backstop net was in perfect focus.

I particularly enjoyed the directors choice to go to the outfield cam when the pitcher started his delivery, and then right as the ball leaves his hand cut to the panoramic press box angle. Really guarantee you having no way of knowing what was happening. At all.

We should most definitely enjoy these wins (because there may only be about 10-15 more the rest of the year)

First opening weekend road sweep in the history of the program.

Some people are already saying Tang Ball might be the only title vacancy in a 2022-23 Titletown run. Some people.

Apparently we are playing the #1 ranked LSU Tigers in a baseball sporting match right now as I’m typing this but it does not appear to be televised
