The Plaza is over flowing with EMAW richies, swinging their dicks around like ballers

Will be there shortly, flaunting my Big 12 Champs shirt like the stud that I am.

Can confirm this to be true.  In my last month's Country Club Homes Association meeting there was a motion to rename the Plaza "Little Manhattan" due to the sheer amount of EMAW.  Stay tuned.

OK Joe's is owned by a big KU fan. In a town filled with legitimate BBQ why would anyone frequent that suburban poser hash house?

The z-man is the best bbq sandwich you can get in the world.

The one that gets cheese microwaved on it? Try the Carolina on texas toast if you want best in the world.

BBQ expert oneeyedwillie, what do you recommend?

Depends on the situation.

If you have never been to Gates, go to Gates. And yes it is in the BBQ elite. A lot of people are intimidated that they yell at you when you go, but they're not being mean. They're just being direct. If you are a tuck, however, don't go to Gates. Tucks will be offended by the yelling. They will be offended that the people serving their food don't say please and thank you. And it's too spicy for tucks.

Arthur Bryant's is also one of the historic greats. There's one at the speedway if you're from PV and are afraid to go East of Troost.

LC's is one of my favorites. It's a small place, and the smoke stack is in the same eating area. There is a lot hickory smoke residue on the floors making it a slippery. You can't always take your girlfriend/wife or your anal friend because they will thinks its not clean.

If you're with your mom, grandma or tuck friend, Jack Stack is good. In my opinion, some of the best quality of meat in town. You have to order the hottest sauce though to get any kind of spice. The hot sauce is about on par with the above mentioned places' regular sauces.

Then there are lot of places that are good, but I haven't been to in years. Danny Edwards, Lil Jakes, Zaps, Laura's BBQ & Stuff, Woodyard... but its been so long, I don't even know if they are still around.

Then there are some places that are alright. Rosedale, Wyandotte, Ok Joes, Quicks, Haywards, Smoke House, Famous Daves...
Yes, Ok Joes is just ok. It's not bad, but not great. I, however, don't like that all the white people/tucks in the area have adopted it as their "best BBQ in town" especially since it's from Stillwater Oklahoma. I'm sure Mike Gundy and Bill Self love it, but the best KC BBQ is not from Oklahoma.

Yes he did.  I disagree with going to Bryant's at the speedway, but yeah.  Bryant's on 18th and Brooklyn does have the same issue with the floors as LC's.

Each place is so distinct and offers its own pros and cons, imo.

Friday lunch? Bryants on 18th
Bachelor party dinner with bros? Jack Stack freighthouse
Hung over Saturday afternoon? Ok Joes
Relatives are in town? Gates or jack stack
Quick pulled pork on a weeknight if you're in joco? Zarda

This is spot-on. My fav is AB's, and I do think there's a difference in quality b/w speedway and original. But I'll eat either.

Tip for LC's: if you have one of those wives or gf's who wouldn't want to go because it's "not clean," stop by and run in to pick some up for a Royals tailgate (it's 5 minutes away from the stadium, on the way from the Plaza area).

I like to say it's hard to find a bad BBQ spot in KC. There's just good places and great places. I find the love for OK Joe's annoying, maybe because it seems to be driven by tuck-types and the Kent Babbs and Sam Mellingers of the world. And it certainly appears like there could be a racial component to it--the "great white hope" of KC BBQ.

Ok idiots, go ahead and stop with the BBQ crap.  That's what the NBAFBBQ thread is for.

This thread is about the Kansas City metro EMAW dominance.  Thanks.

One eye, I like your style. As a native Kansas Citian, you're spot on.

For those who want some of the best wings in the world, try Winslows in the City Market, KCMO. The pork sandwich is pretty tasty too. They have a nifty bar with a decent beer selection too.  Also, the uninitiated don't realize that there are different places that stand out for different meats (e.g. LC's = pork baby!; Bryant's = ribs (get 'em dry and doll 'em up w/Gates & Son's - extra hot is my fave; see aforementioned Winslow's for bird). There used to be a buffet near the old Gates at 12th & Brooklyn called Papa Lew's that had good BBQ & other soul food, not sure if still there; also if you get over near the stadiums and don't feel like BBQ, try the Peachtree = best fried chicken there is. Fiorella's has the best 'sit down' atmosphere and GREAT beans & onion rings; Rosedale's crinkle fries are the best (but only when they're hot - dip 'em in Gates sauce).

Sorry to answer the original question - I'd say "almost." During FB season, no doubt. During BB season, it's still a KU & somewhat Mizzou town. A Big XII Champy will go a long way toward evening up the atmosphere. This is based on family & friend reports. As the name indicates, I haven't lived in KC for about 7 yrs now.
