Is Kansas City now firmly a K-State town?
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:10:02 PM »
We know that KC will never be 100% purple, but man, I can't believe how much EMAW I keep seeing around here. Today I've seen probably 75 people wearing Kansas State gear, and only like 4 people wearing gear from other schools (2 Missouri people, 2 Kansas people, all of those were poors, and both of the Kansas people were wearing stained orange bowl shirts, stained with ranch dressing or whatever poors eat).

Question is, how does this change the dynamic of the KC metro area going forward?

The transformation over to purple for Kansas City is a freight train, and I don't think the momentum is going to slow down anytime soon.

You were probably just hanging out in the rich part of town. I doubt the poor areas have changed much.

Western KC has a lot of KSU.  Shawnee, Lenexa, Olathe.  Prairie Village, Overland Park, Leawood also has a lot of KSU.  But, still a solid KU majority.

Well, yeah.

Probably has a lot to do with the economic turnaround that I keep seeing more and more KSU Cats clothing (not gear).

Edwardsville, Bonner Springs, Olathe, Shawnee = KU strongholds.  K-State even or better in the rest of the 'burbs on the Kansas side.

The KC metro has really changed since you moved to the Pacific Northwest bud. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Was Prairie Village a squawk's nest in 1997? For sure, but this isn't 1997.

Pfffftttt... all you have to do is breathe on a KU grad, and before you know it, you're in Prairie Village eating brisket and drinking Boulevard IPA's.

There are more KSU fans around plaza and in Mission Hills.  Down the state line/Ward into leawood.  About a 3-1 ratio.

KU fans seems to stick closer to the west.  Shawnee, Merriam and in PV.  OP is a mix with EMAW being closer to the Nall/Roe/130's while KU fans get farther west.  Olathe is pretty EMAJ.  I don't go there a lot though so who really knows.

Report from Prairie Village and Leawood today: dominated by purple Kansas.

The sad thing is there are tons of Fusker Football fans that are also Ku basketball fans.   And then there are fans that are not "real sports fans" that will cheer for KU in hoops and NU in football.

When you are EMAW, there is no rooting for another local team because you suck in a sport.

can confirm leawood/pv is EMAW.

parents live in north leawood, all of their neighbors are emaw, with the exception of one who is MU (weird)

went to the PV blue moose to watch the game with my pops last week, tons of k-state there. pretty much packed.

KC (the KS side and lees summit) has shifted heavily k-state in the last 5-10 yrs.  Enrollment at this respective schools mimics this trend.  KU fans typically live in WyCo and trashy parts of KCMO. The MO side of KC is almost all MU (gold teeth and all).

PV is ridiculously KSU.  Mission Hills is all old money went to some tiny private college people.

I was walking past one of the gift shops at KCI on Monday, and I noticed that they were all selling KU and KSU stuff.  I didn't see any Mizzou items at all.

I thought it was kind of funny.
