The Buccaneer in San Fran (Russian Hill) was a great dive. Got really weird there one night.

This is an interesting concept because hipsters seemingly wouldn't want to go to a dive bar that hipsters go to because how can a bar be divey enough if it has hipsters in it?  Yet, as soon as a hipster sets foot in any bar, that bar has hipsters in it. Going to a dive bar is like an impossible dream.  Or like trying to catch the perfect wave, perhaps.

peanut on main, good call.   grinders, i disagree.

guy fieri wall art turn you off?

well, i've never noticed the art you're referring to.  just seems like the 8 foot panel windows in the front and the back of the place that keep the inside of the place as bright as the sun, with the fact that their food is well regarded by just about everyone, they do a ton of micro/craft beer, and the place is pretty damn clean, would disqualify it.  but don't let my perspective jade your very odd idea of what a dive bar is.

The Laundra-bar, in Topeka, is hands down the diviest of dives. The bar is attached to a laundromat. Seriously, you have to walk through the laundromat to enter the bar.

If Dark Horse didn't have that front part it'd be a dive for sure.

This is a great one. I used to work at the coffee shop next door to it. My high school self had some crazy run-ins with the drunk white trash that frequented The Laundro-Bar.

THE WORLD CUP!!! Jakesie, where did you go to high school?

I've had some interesting Sunday fundays at the laundra-bar. My roommate, in undergrad, and I used to make a once a month trip to wash bedding (our wash and dryer sucked).

did my laundry twice there when i lived across from washburn.

it was famed in the construction-trash element because it was the first bar in town to open, so they would go there if there was a rain day or something.

what about the Red Front in downtown kc? i've never been there but i think it might be my favorite, just because of the crowd that hangs out in front smoking every day at 5:20 pm.

its fantastic

The red ballon

oh man, yes.

Holy crap yes, The Red Balloon. Off 75th and I-35 right? My brother took me there once and i aged a few years before leaving. We needed night goggles just to see while inside. Each beer was served in an iced over mug that weighed about 20 pounds, but only held 12 ounces. Conway Twitty was playing on a loop in the background. And the constant noise of billiard balls crackling in the background.

Loved me some Red Balloon.

Manhattan: Auntie Mae's obviously

Lawrence:  Sand Bar (now that Shenago is moved)

KC: Peanut on Main or Grinder's you know?

Vehemently disagree that Mae's is a dive bar. If you say it is, then you're not a true drinker.

Johnnies on 7th in KCK. Drinks are dirt cheap ($1.50 domestic draws every night), owner is a regular bartender, small shuffleboard, foosball table, 2 dartboards, free stale popcorn from a nasty popcorn maker. Plus the music isn't blaring loud. It's heaven

Yes, bar games are important. Darts, Buck Hunter, Buck Hunter Safari, etc. And jukeboxes are a big indication, too.

Jerry's Bait Shop in Lenexa

Closed  :embarrassed:

STFU!  IS THIS TRUE??!?!?!!!111

Is the Lee's Summit location closed as well?   I like(d) that one better than the Lenexa one.   Their pizza is (was) very good.

In Wichita,  I like the Shamrock and the Oasis.  The Lou used to be a real crap but I haven't been there in ages and I think they've remodeled or something.

Used to live in the apartments behind there.   Didn't seem very divey to me.   Had good/cheap tacos though so I'll allow it.
