the opposite is true. every bar in aggieville is a dive.

the best dive bar in KC is DB Coopers, by a long shot.  not anything close, except maybe Caddyshack.  and their gourmet pizza kind of prevents them from being a dive.

"I'm 'clams, if it's not on the plaza it's a dive."  :jerk:

It seems to me that a dive wouldn't have a customer base that primarily consisted of college kids three-four nights a week.

Caddyshack .... their gourmet pizza kind of prevents them from being a dive.

Oh, it's gourmet now, huh? Not Casey's-General-Store-y?

Unbelievable.

Redfront and 403 Club are probably my faves for what I would consider a dive.

Really want to check out this new location too.

i would agree if we were talking about before they re-did it.  i don't think you remember how much he cleaned up the place.  a marble bar, polished/stamped/stained concrete floors, etc kind of take it out of any dive bar discussion.

there's a really just one dive on the plaza, specifically Fred P Otts, with Tom Fooleries falling into sd's borderline dive category.

not sure where metalhead's angst comes from, but my point was that aggieville is rough ridin' sewer.  there's nice places in aggieville, unbunch your thong.

I agree, aggieville is not a classy area. However, I'd say that hardly any of those bars qualify as "dives". I must have a different definition of a dive bar than the rest of you, though.

When I think dive bar:

Fairly small; namesake of this board on the larger end.
No food or extremely limited menu (popcorn/bar nuts/chips & dip/pickled eggs/pizza slices)
Regulars are a must
Older construction / parts in disrepair
TV's are few and far between, not a main attraction
Dimmer lighting, but not in a club sort of way, is a plus
Cash bar only is a huge plus, but not a necessity
:adios:

Harling's passes all these tests with flying colors, with added bonus(es) of not having a sign anywhere, and occasionally pretending the smoking ban does not exist

I would consider Omalleys, The Lou, Fats, Mae's and Fast Eddies all dives. I would include Pats if they hadn't renovated.

Good call on Red Front - pretty sure their bar tenders are strippers on their days off.  The Quaff might get a dive nod but its huge and serves an extensive menu.  Fulfills the cheap drinks with specials and is in 1994 shape

A game of shuff with some bros at a possible dive bar is great.  Really ups the comaraderie and fun level.  Two of the dive bars in my hometown have shuffleboard tables.  Completely transforms them to good time central HQ.
