Yup. The Goose is still there featuring Caitlin, the drunkest waitress/bartender in Topeka.  There's another place called The Back Door right off 6th and MacVicar that I've been to a few times but it's even worse than a dive bar.  Like, bad bartenders and disgusting bathrooms.  But the people inside are still friendly.

Is that the one across from the newish kwik shop? Weird place, lots of nasty bras hanging from their ceiling fans, which are of course covered in dust.

Yeah that's exactly where the Back Door is.  As far as bras hanging from dusty ceiling fans, I can't recall but it wouldn't surprise me. Just remembered a group of buds went there after the OU game to celebrate and get Pak'd.  I went up to order Slippery Nipple shots for our table and it took the dude forever to make them because he had to look it up in the book.   :dubious:

when there isn't a concert in the back yard, it's a dive, but that just in my opinion.

Not all dive bars are cash only, but all cash only bars are dives.

I went to a cash-only bar this weekend that had someone on top-chef running the kitchen and had a burger with curry aoli on the menu. (You could get it lettuce wrapped if you're gluten-free, of course). I had an Italian panini that had whole garlic cloves and fresh mozzarella and cost $9.

Was that a dive bar?

I knew some hipster was going to come oppose my post with some obscure bar in the Bay Area as soon as I hit "post".

don't ever deal in absolutes, jakesie. Ever. I also asked you a question - is what I described, a dive bar? This is what it looks like, it also has pretty gross bathrooms:

what about the Red Front in downtown kc? i've never been there but i think it might be my favorite, just because of the crowd that hangs out in front smoking every day at 5:20 pm.

You pretty much can't go wrong with any of the dive bars in mission or waldo/brookside.

I almost never do. I use tons of qualifiers to avoid absolute statements. I just wanted to do it this one time.

:dunno:

Maybe dive bars are too common for hipsters now, so they're moving on to borderline dive bars. I've never heard of a bar like you described or seen one like in that picture.

I think it's too expensive to have a real dive bar in SF. But lots of places try because it's what the fake hipsters want. JMO.
