I'll take an unbeatable UT in exchange for a terrible Baylor, thank you very much.

Texas source says Patterson flew to Louisville, met with Charlie Strong for at least four hours; will interview others.
Would Strong be a good coach there?  Kinda torn here.

He'd be good.  Art Briles is plug and play, though.  He wouldn't have to sell himself to HS coaches, boosters, etc.  He'd be golden from day one.

That's NOTHING against Strong.  If he goes back to Florida, it's the same thing.  He still recruits Florida heavily at Louisville from his ties from when he was DC there.

Texas should be able to do better than Strong. What has he done beside ride Bridgewater's coattails?

I don't think they'll be terrible, though.  New stadium, different culture now, etc.  They won't accept Kevin Steele/Guy Morriss any more.

KU/ISU are the only ones who seem to steer into the mediocrity for their own odd reasons.

Briles has built and sustained success at Baylor over 6 seasons. Most thought RG3 would be the best they could do, but 2 years later they have a Big 12 title. Throw in the TX connections and it seems like an easy decision to me.

If Briles goes to UT, does he take Bennett with him?  Smart FB people, how would Bennett's blitzing style work with UT athletes?  Would it be scary for opposing offenses?  Would he be wasting that talent?

I hope it's Briles to Texas.

Some part of me wants Baylor destabilized.  While it's true that Baylor now has a competitive infrastructure that is no guarantee of future success.

An unbeatable texas would do wonders for this conference's image.

Pat Jones brought something about Briles to UT that scares him.  It's not just Briles having UT's talent.  It's that Briles is so liked and admired in Texas HS coaches. Part of it is they will protect their good players from A&M for him. The other big thing no one is talking about is how honest they will be with him.  He'll get honest feedback form a players coach and opposing coaches about who is a hidden 3-star gem in a bad situation and who is a highly touted fraud that is a result of their situation and surroundings.  He'll have probably the best recruiting and scouting system in the best state any college coach has had in a long, long time.

Briles can already do that at Baylor. He just isn't that scary and I don't know why everyone constantly shits their pants over him. He's very good, but certainly not scarier than Gundy or Stoops.

That being said, it is best for the conference if he stays and a different top-flight coach goes to UT.

For Briles to put together a better team at Baylor than those at OU or OSU instantly makes Briles scarier than Gundy and Stoops. So much scarier. Sell your soul to the devil, scary.

Can you imagine Briles with Manziel or Winston?  He offered both of then at Baylor and would have got either of them at UT.  If he offers just one of them, especially at UT, the entire national college football season changes drastically.  So no, he doesn't already have that at Baylor and the national image of the Big12 is completely different with either of those two players in the conference.

Manziel and Winston both said they wanted to play at UT but Mack tried to make them CB.

There's no guarantee Briles would have offered. Or that he would have wanted to play for Briles. Like I said, it's meaningless.

Good point. Briles at UT is probably above the #1 QB in the nation who happens to be from Texas.

Yeah it's about a 98% chance he would've offered considering he did at Baylor and is a good talent evaluator at QB.

briles is the easy and obvious choice if you're are texas. offering anyone else before him (minus saban or urban) would be stupid.
