Art Briles at Texas is going to be downright nasty.

Texas might actually be the better financial decision than Washington, over the next 10 years, who knows?

he's guaranteed to win at Texas.  at Washington?  pfft.

Everything Dan Snyder touches turns to awful.

I can't imagine an easier decision than choosing between Washington and Texas.

OK, what if your goal was to make X amount money as quickly as possible and retire?  Which one is better?

We don't have any reason to believe that Briles feels that way, but he did spend an awful lot of time making next to nothing as a coach, and kept taking bigger jobs.  Was he driven to "succeed," or make a bunch of cash?  Who knows?

Yeah, Bob to Cleveland popped into my head yesterday.  Might not be a bad way to end his career.

Pat Jones brought something about Briles to UT that scares him.  It's not just Briles having UT's talent.  It's that Briles is so liked and admired in Texas HS coaches. Part of it is they will protect their good players from A&M for him. The other big thing no one is talking about is how honest they will be with him.  He'll get honest feedback form a players coach and opposing coaches about who is a hidden 3-star gem in a bad situation and who is a highly touted fraud that is a result of their situation and surroundings.  He'll have probably the best recruiting and scouting system in the best state any college coach has had in a long, long time.

The Big 12, as a conference, needs Briles at Texas to fight off the ascension of A&M.

I agree that Washington and Texas probably pay him the same.  But moving from a known to an unknown?  He gets to do what he does a few hundred miles away in a conf he knows, in a state he knows....and he basically "controls" his own destiny...he gets to draft at the top of the list every year at UT.

This would be really scary for Bob Stoops, et. al.

You know what they say about Texas recruiting, it's not "RECRUITING," it's "SELECTING."  If what you say is true, Briles could fix Mack's SELECTION problems and start fist rough ridin' the entire Big 12 right away.  :ohno:

Seriously, who do you think Bob Stoops would least like to see as Texas' coach (of the remaining likely candidates).  I bet it's Briles.

Ya, you guys are right.  No rough ridin' way Briles goes to Washington, and prolly no rough ridin' way he'd turn down THE University of Texas.

Quote
Briles, 57, is as Texan as that lone star up on the state flag. He married his high school sweetheart. He hasn’t even vacationed, let alone lived, anywhere but in Texas. Ask him what’s the longest he’s ever been outside its borders, and he’s stone-cold stumped.

“That’s a pretty good question,” he says in a thick drawl. “We don’t vacation much. We honeymooned down in Corpus [Christi] — so that’s still in the state. I’m trying to think — I mean, probably four or five days, that’s it.”

More than just a quirk of circumstance, Briles’s Texas-ness is an essential part of his self-identity.

Quote
“I have people asking me all the time if he’s going to go to this place or that place, and I tell them every time, ‘Look, he’s not going anywhere,’?” said Ken Bailey, a Houston attorney and one of Briles’s closest friends and confidants. “His roots are too deeply entrenched in Texas soil.”

That too, hope they go straight back to the dumpster fire they were and where they belong.  Plus beating Texas when they are actually good would do a lot of good for KSU recruiting, etc.

Strong to UT could also be very good/bad depending on how you look at it.  I think Strong could do very well at UT.  A Strong-UT/Briles-Baylor combo could dominate the conference.  As a combo they could be 9/8 respectively, but Briles-UT/Someone-else-Baylor could be a 12/5 for each going forward.

There's also speculation that Jim Caldwell may succeed Bill O'Brien at Penn State. He was the QBs coach there from 1986-1992.
