Who wins in this battle:

Currie's inner accountant vs. What's best for Currie's Resume vs. What's best for KSU FB  (Hint: The correct answer is not "What's best for KSU FB")

Yeah, but 2 and 3 don't necessarily conflict either.  A great hire that is seen out of KStates league would help his resume tremendously.  His resume really doesn't need any more fundraising polishing.  It could really use some good coach hiring and relationship polishing though.

IMO (like it matters) it will not be anyone on staff or with K-State ties. It will be someone the SEC connections/south connections. "It will knock our socks off"

Or Currie may use this hire to hire a manority for his resume building. Hope for a firing from the WBB or Baseball clubs to fill this "need"

Well he ran off the one we had, so he probably needs two to get back ahead in that category (that is unless he wants an SEC job, in which case he needs to hire as many non-threatening white protestants as possible).

12% increase over what we are paying the current staff as a whole is still no where near the $ it will take to hire splash coach.  It's not just the $ for the HC as the HC won't commit coaching suicide by taking a job with a low staff budget.

I'm not sure if he meets our "better than Prince" standard. Dimel would be better, but not much. I would like to see us pursue Luke Fickell, but I doubt that we even give him a phone call.

I think the whole "Dimel wouldn't be a bad choice" idea is dependent on what the overall staff budget is.  If we could hire Dimel at $1.5MM rather than someone else at $2.3MM, would Dimel be given an extra $400,000 to play with to hire is assistants over what the $2.3MM coach would be given?  Would Dimel be given an extra $150,000 to throw at a better DC?  Would rather take Dimel with a higher staff budget than a splash HC hire with a crap staff.

Look at Ron Prince's team with James Franklin & Raheem Morris compared to Ron Prince's team with Tim Tibesar & Dave Brock.  Look at LHC Bill Snyder's teams with Dana Dimel or Brett Bielema or any DC or OC from the 1990s compared to LHC Bill Snyder's teams with Del Miller and Bobby Elliott.

I agree, but if you don't get told "no" a few times, you're not really going to end up with the best possible coach. It's going to be a whole lot easier for me to stomach whoever we end up with if we at least publicly go after some good coaches. I mean, if Iowa State can get Gene Chizik, who's to say we have no shot at somebody's defensive coordinator? Why not ask?

Jim Tressel would be the ultimate home run, and he's toxic to other programs for the next few years.

Tressel still could be. He would have to sit out the first 5 games of his first season and he would not be able to coach the bowl game. BFD, if you ask me.

No way on tressel.  With oscar rough ridin' up BB, the sole tuck focus will be on football.  No way all that tuck focus will let us end up with a guy like tressel.

The majority of our fans would rather we be a 5-6 win team with a guy they sit next to at church that doesn't cuss and won't let LaDanian Tomlinson sleep through meetings.

They would only be against Tressel until his first press conference, at which time they would fully endorse him. It would be just like Huggins, only better.

The majority of our fans will stop going to games altogether after we hire some loser and he goes a few seasons with only 5-6 wins. It's Currie's job to see this.
