To be fair, it is my understanding K-State couldn't sell stuff like what I made to promote athletes either. The NCAA limits that to only the sale of jerseys by schools; they can't slap a player's name/image on a shirt and sell stuff like that. In everything I've done I've tried to be broad enough, but its tough to do.
Correct, K-State couldn't use player names/likeness on a Tshirt either. They can sell a #7 jersey/shirt, but it can't say "KLEIN" on the back. Which is kinda silly by the NCAA, but whatever.
Like you said, its very tough to create a "legal" shirt, since what constitutes a "likeness" can be very vague. And most universities will err on the side of caution, since a player's eligibility is on the line.
so this friend of mine wants to help get some more pub for this stud qb, and he (total dorkball, btw) wants to use animated likenesses of this awesome college qb, possibly even say the qb's name in the video. But he won't make shirts or merchandise, just wholesome family-friendly youtube fun. Should I tell this doofus-boob to:
a) roll the dice and go for it since his crap vid won't be seen by more than 25 other ugly nerdfaces
b) don't say the qb's name
c) don't say the qb's name, remove the qb's likeness, allude to somebody very similar
d) stop this weirdo obsession and go fix somebody's computer or play dungeons and dragons
e) c, then d
Thank you in advance for any help you may provide, Captain Crap!
