Seems like the Prime Candidate shirt would fit through a loophole here ?

To be fair, it is my understanding K-State couldn't sell stuff like what I made to promote athletes either. The NCAA limits that to only the sale of jerseys by schools; they can't slap a player's name/image on a shirt and sell stuff like that. In everything I've done I've tried to be broad enough, but its tough to do.

Correct, K-State couldn't use player names/likeness on a Tshirt either. They can sell a #7 jersey/shirt, but it can't say "KLEIN" on the back. Which is kinda silly by the NCAA, but whatever.

Like you said, its very tough to create a "legal" shirt, since what constitutes a "likeness" can be very vague. And most universities will err on the side of caution, since a player's eligibility is on the line.

thanks cc. what's your take on the robot with a #7 on it that _fan is using as his avatar? it doesn't say klein anywhere and doesn't have his likeness on it, unless you think klein looks like a robot. anyway good to have you back posting some. what a ride the last few weeks with football have been huh?

I don't know. My guess is that it would be fine, but as noted before, schools will be really cautious about anything that can be traced back to a specific player. _Fan would def want to get some sort of interpretation from K-State before proceeding with shirts etc.

I think Hasbro or Mattel or whatever company owns the Transformers would have some thoughts on the shirt, but that's a different subject.

FWIW, on sportsbook, Klein is at 1:2 odds to win the Heisman.  Like wager $10 to win $5.  Next best are Geno and Barkley at 7:2.  :sdeek:

Just did some digging: $80 dollars a year with a $300 dollar application fee.

You're referring to a license to print a powercat or K-State. The Issue is with the players name/likeness, which is a clear NCAA violation. The school must, under NCAA rules, take steps to stop the activity. If they don't, then the player could be deemed ineligible.

It isn't K-State's rule, they just have to be the ones enforcing it.

The Mask stuff is different -- that is K-State (I assume the trademark & licensing office) protecting it's trademark. That's the kind of thing you can pay to use.

Thanks cc.

I didn't mean to imply I got the same letter. This letter was like the letter I got for fear the beard. I knew I was pressing the boundries a bit, but since the previous rulings on intellectual property are so broad I took a shot. It was fun for a bit, I just like seeing good players from K-State get some attention and people like tshirts.

Speaking of which... Now that Pullen has exhausted his eligibility, can those shirts be made again? I think people would still buy them.  I would, at least.

Didn't KSU make and sell janky ripoff FTB shirts or was it just janky ripoff OOD shirts?

Either way, I bet their lawyer told them to just do whatever they want.

If there's one thing every good Roman Catholic cares about, it's voting up the Mormon star linebacker of their beloved school that they've never attended or been to for any reason.

What Mormon plays at KU?  :ksu:

It's always hilarious to watch all the purist journalists pimp a defensive player or O-linemen from a traditional school in their columns and then secretly vote for the QB when the time comes.

I love that Tech players are openly campaigning for a Kleinsman.

Sad that Dagy's own players hate him.

so this friend of mine wants to help get some more pub for this stud qb, and he (total dorkball, btw) wants to use animated likenesses of this awesome college qb, possibly even say the qb's name in the video.  But he won't make shirts or merchandise, just wholesome family-friendly youtube fun.  Should I tell this doofus-boob to:

a) roll the dice and go for it since his crap vid won't be seen by more than 25 other ugly nerdfaces
b) don't say the qb's name
c) don't say the qb's name, remove the qb's likeness, allude to somebody very similar
d) stop this weirdo obsession and go fix somebody's computer or play dungeons and dragons
e) c, then d

Thank you in advance for any help you may provide, Captain Crap!

I think he or someone else said it could be used to promote...think of that one guy who played for the dukes and got a giant tarp display in NYC and is now one of the analysts alongside Erin Andrews and Eddie George on FOX.  Joey

Tell your Canadian friend to post it under a new youtube account associated to a new email address.  Then, tell your Canadian friend to rock out with his male genitals out, and to hang out with his wang out, if you know what I mean.
