Couple of interesting things going on right now. You've probably already seen the John Stewart/US Embassy
thing that has Morsy pissed off now (BTW, that was so totally not approved from foggy bottom first
the guys in press office here are awesome).
But while this is going on, the Embassy has had to repeatedly deny that the Ambassador gave an interview to an Israeli paper and said the following:
Jews are the real owners of Egypt, since they were expelled after they built the Pyramids and that DNA analysis showed that King Tut was of Jewish origin ... Israel will no longer be threatened by Arab barbarians who want to destroy it ... Poverty and eventual bankruptcy in Egypt will push the Egyptians to famine, and then Jews will return again to the land of Egypt to enslave the Egyptians and feed them and save them from starvation and poverty
This rumor emerged in January and conspiracy-loving Arabs are still reporting it as actual news (not just on twitter and facebook, but on actual TV news broadcasts
).
The other day, one channel had three typical guests and one rational guy who kept saying "this seems like a very unlikely thing for an Ambassador to say" and asking where the original interview even was, since no one had a copy, while the other three just kept shouting him down and yelling about zionist conspiracies.
I mean, what is this, I don't even, King Tut was Jewish?
