Is it like a loaded baked potato?  How do Egyptians normally take their potatoes?

You need to purchase an authentic potato cart thing and bring it back to the states with you. It would be great for MOAP 5.2 or whatever it will be when you come back.

There is a seafood joint in NO that boils potatoes in some sort of boil seasoning.  Makes the potatoes delish so that you can eat them like an apple with nothing else.  Is this what Egyptian potatoes are like?

Pretty sure I didn't see a boiling apparatus on that terrifying demon cart straight from hell that felix rex took a picture of.  Also, pretty sure that's going to be making a guest appearance in a nightmare I'll be having soon.

russet

but I still have no idea what those potatoes are for. No one's lining up to buy them. No one's even minding the carts. There's just potatoes potatoes potatoes all the way down. Maybe the local restaurants use them? There's a really good steakhouse near where I took that pic (it's in the uppity Mohandeseen neighborhood of Cairo).

Confession: when I ate at the steakhouse, I got the Australian ribeye instead of the Egyptian ribeye.

Pro-tip: If you're dining in Cairo during Ramadan (when lots of places quit serving alcohol), the restaurant will sometimes look the other way if you bring in your own booze when you have a big group of big spenders at your table. We basically paid that dude's rent with our meal, so he pretended not to notice our flask and didn't ask for IDs (they won't serve Egyptians during the holy month).

I bet they have some tool that burrows out a hole in the middle of the potato about 90% of the way from top to bottom, then they fill said hole with chili, broccoli cheddar soup, or some sour cream mix.

I bet.

If not, they should.

And, no Mr. Bread, I don't see any rough ridin' sour cream on that cart.  Maybe it's a multi step/multi vendor process and you have to go to the next vendor for your fillings.

Also, I am patenting this in case this isn't what they are doing and Wendy's is reading this post.  Filled potatoes are gonna be huge stateside.

A baked potato is one of the last things I would think of when thinking to myself that I was hungry and would like to pick up something I could eat while walking somewhere.

Makes as much sense as a drive thru fondu restaurant.

if you put it in a cup, fondue is a great travel food

:dunno:

FR got word that it may be revolution time again on Friday.  We're gonna need to make sure wrigleyville bars have a tv tuned in to CNN.

Next month, I'm thinking of earning an extra katpak jar by joining the Tahrir protesters but carrying a "goEMAW.com" sign. If it works out, I'll give you a heads up so someone can record it. I've already slapped a few 'what is emaw" stickers around my neighborhood.

If they have foamboard makers there, I'll send you the file to get a pak head made.

Send me file. Check your PM.

My baby/fetus/son died. In a rough ridin' Egyptian hospital. Sorry to derail the thread, but it saves us all future awkward references to "Prince Rex" (which, i naturally assume you all were to referring to him as).

So, this thread may dogleg through as lightly darker route than before. Or I may be a bit unstable around the boards the next few weeks. Regardless, I'm counting on you irreverent assholes to provide enough inappropriate sarcasm to help me ease back into at least one phase of my life. Did not want to dump all this here, but my efforts to just jump back in felt weird and fake if i didn't.

And finally, here's a guy on a bicycle. Wearing bread as a hat
