the other day on his radio show he was talking about wanting a shot at the Central Florida job for eff sakes.  It is a great situation for both Leach and KU because both are desperate and have no other options.

This.  The only way that Leach goes somewhere else is if some other/better desperate school comes calling.  I mean, Huggins would have gone to MU but they didn’t want to touch him.  And I really haven’t heard much from anyone else besides Wazzu.  I mean, Wazzu vs. KU?  I’d take KU in a littlejay heartbeat.  It’s closing time, ku, take her home.

There's talk around here of Leach to NC State after O'Brien retires/gets fired. I could see that happening  :dunno:

IMO KU's best bet is to throw everything they have at Sumlin. They might have a chance with him and he's much more likely than a Leach or Leavitt, even with SZ's connections to those two.

Sumlin has been a dream of mine since we fired Mangino.  Unfortunately, he's not interested in the KU job.

 :bawl:

So, how does this make things any different than your woody for Leach?

Apparently your  :opcat: colors are shining through.  Getting rid of Gill wasn't enough for you.  You have to make sure that HC job goes lily-white.    Beems, I expected more from you.

Just wonderin'?

Also, you're a mouth breathing idiot if you think KU is going to hire another clown like Turner Gill.  KU is going to make a Bob Huggins type of hire with this next coach.  Book it.

And who will be KU's target coach at this time next year when "Bob Huggins type of hire" moves on to greener pastures?

Kind of like money laundering, but with a pirate instead of currency.

Hope he was not the source of the buyout money.  :ohno:

Hell.  Probably had a massive insurance policy with the beneficiary being the KU athletic department.

Makes you wonder if Zenger offed him.

That would be the sort of stuff he would have learned at the feet of the scheme master in Manhattan.

they ought to throw 1.75 at leach with big time incentives.

That means they'd be paying a football coach $3.75 million over the next three years, plus incentives, when you factor in Gill's salary that they'll still be paying on.

I'm sorry, but I don't think they have the cash for that right now.

Just stop.  KU has plenty of cash.

This interview is from the summer.

Quote
Where would he coach if he could, carte blanche, pick a school? He wants a place with good tradition and the chance to compete for titles, but a place with some challenges and history of recent struggle, some place like UCLA or North Carolina. The nice thing about talking to Leach is how you can throw the e-brake and turn the car around in conversation mid-stream without worrying about losing him, and I do this by wondering out loud about how aberrant the success of a place like Virginia Tech was, a school without an easy local recruiting gold mine to sit on, a place sort of thrown out in the hills with no major city near it.

He nods.

"I think we were almost there in Lubbock. Other schools like Texas and Oklahoma are getting 23 draft picks in five years, and we're getting nine. They turn out draft picks all the time there, and we were getting there. We could have had something like Virginia Tech in Lubbock, I think.

KU fits the exact same profile as a UCLA or North Carolina.  Was that your point?

Traditional basketball schools that have had recent success in football?  Seems like a match to me.

UNC and KU are mirror images of each other.  Both basketball schools that have had recent success in football.

Duke would prolly be more accurate...only KU is worse at basketball and maybe a little better at football.  jmo.

UCLA and North Carolina are elite basketball schools.  ku wins conference titles, but when they hang banners for Helms calculations in lieu of actual championships, ku doesn't compare.

ku just fired an abusive coach two years ago for being abusive and mike leach got fired for the same reason. that's a pretty big difference. would be a great hire though, i just don't see how ku can do it. they'd basically be "abusive coaches u".

KU has more wins in the past five years than any other program in college basketball.  We just smoked UCLA in the Maui Invitational as well.

KU definitely holds up against UCLA and UNC in hoops records.  but i think the other schools traditionally have more success in football.

historical win %
33. UCLA
44. UNC
70. KU
100. KSU

 :frown:

past 20 years:
20. KSU
43. UCLA
45. UNC
72. KU
