Just mark everything in your inbox as “read” and start over. It’s liberating.

I think now's a good time but I still get like 100 per day that I don't want to read.

If it’s not from one of my bosses or key customer counterparts, then I don’t read it unless they put my name at the top.

Just seeing 10K unread emails give me anxiety.  I hate coming back from vacation and having a couple hundred.

I get so much industry spam e-mail through various bar associations and vendors that I would bet the ratio of e-mails I need to read vs. e-mails I know I don't need to read is like 1:6. Outlook does a good job of sorting it into the "Other" tab, though.

I get plenty of industry spam emails but I quickly delete them to get them out of my way.

I'm one of those people, whom some consider insane, that is not bothered by the indicator showing the number of unread e-mails, messages, etc. I have a process that ensures I see everything I need to see, so that unread indicator doesn't bother me a bit.

Have a weekly virtual meeting and a few years ago someone apparently did not have their mic turned off. At the end of said meeting the guy goes well that's an hour of my life I'll never get back. Which then led to the leader trying to figure out who said it  :D

Not sure how you can do this. I see everything I need to but can't stand the number showing unread emails. I also use a lot of rules and stuff and make use the of 'mark as read' a lot.

I'm learning that gmail has some glitches when you try to mark 10000 emails as read

It just doesn't bother me, but I have known many people whom it bothers a great deal. It's just one of those things that affects some people profoundly and others not at all. I'd be curious to see a survey on this phenomenon. To me, it comes across as obsessive behavior, but I pass no judgment.

same. I have like 7 emails in my work box right now and I've already went through them. I just need to get motivated to either delete or move them to the appropriate keep folder.

It is literally impossible for me.  It would be more than a full time job reading and sorting without taking any action.  I am team rusty.

This is where i’m at.  I’ve got filters fixed to put emails to where they need to go and i can still tell there is a problem due to rapid unread email growth.  I just verified i have one filter/folder with 1.9 million unread. Might mark all as read

i try to read them but don’t care if I don’t read them.  i’m pretty good at knowing what’s important in my job without needing outlook to tell me.
