also i have 5 weeks and that feels about right. i usually take a 2-week VQ, another week long trip here or there, and some rando days for 3-day weekends. most people at my work don't use even that many

Unlimited PTO has been pretty badass so far. Can't complain. I might do some more Monday golf tournaments this year with the guys.

I have an exorbitant amount of PTO and NE passed some law that requires my employer to pay it out each year (other than 5 days I can roll) if I don't use it all.

4x8 or 4x10?  I've worked 4x10 and it's preferable to 5x8 imo, 4x8 would be like the greatest thing ever.

My experience was 4x10's. I imagine a startup would be similar but without set hours

i wonder if MO passed something similar because my company's policy just changed to this. previously you could roll over 5 days but you lost whatever you didn't use over that

No PTO for us, just a bunch of vacation and some personal days. Vacation time goes up based on years worked. I don't even know how much I get, but its plenty. We used to be able to carry over whatever we wanted but they decided to cut it at like 2 or 3 weeks. That year we got paid out for everything above the limit was amaze.

I just picked up a 4th week of paid vacation 4 years earlier than company policy. I use the majority of my vacation time for my farming habit. Now I'm thinking I'll have to buy more farm ground.

I get 3 weeks that accrues and never expires. I like to keep a minimum of a week banked but like 2020 I barely used any time and had shitloads saved up. Late 2021/2022 has been a vacation/day off bonanza.

4x10s is far better than 5x8s.  back when i was on salary we had a project for a while where we did 7 days every two weeks.  that was really nice.

Why did you only take two weeks off when you had four?

Because they bought a place that was a mess, put me in charge of operations with very little oversight & I effectively have equity.

What is effective equity, if you don't mind me asking?

Sounds terrible, hopefully you get to make up for it this year with some nice vacations.

I’ll have ownership 5 years. There’s a free different paths for me to get it, depending on how well the company does & what I want to execute. There’s also paths to ownership in sister businesses I’ve started to invest in with cross pollinated investors.

I'm leaving education administration this week, Friday is my last day, and I couldn't be happier. I am going back to the summer camp industry. I have to set up a home office because I will be working from home September-May but at camp during the late spring and summer. Running a nonprofit camp is what brought me to Iowa. I will not be running two for profit camps that are a part of a corporation, I report to the corporate CEO. Time for a new adventure, hopefully the last one. I am too damn old to keep switching jobs.

I want a different job. I make great money but this job is boring as eff. Same crap. Every month. Rinse and repeat. I need something less repetitive.

Every once in awhile I think about Keynes predicting a 15 hour work week by 2030 and try to push it out of my mind before I self harm.
