I got a little bit of a promotion. One of the perks is unlimited PTO.  Made me think of this thread.

Yeah unlimited PTO is a scam in general, but I think a lot of the big boys offer tons of benefits where you are limited only by your shame. Especially in this labor market my advice to anyone is keep doing a kickass job and take full advantage of your benefits like “unlimited PTO” without reservation.

I’ve had unlimited PTO for years and have hardly taken any time off.

Same. At this job I knew the owners before. I had 5 weeks at my previous job. When they were trying to hire me my wife told one of the owners I needed to have a lot of vacation. He just laughed & said I’d get unlimited because he knew I wouldn’t use it.

Apparently the accounting manager made them put in something so they put in 4 weeks. I never turned anything in. My office is next to hers. She kept track & I didn’t use half of it.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

Why did you only take two weeks off when you had four?

That's the beauty of unlimited vacation

Known capitalist republic of independent states and non-EU member Switzerland REQUIRES all employees (public and private) to take 5 weeks off a year. That would be a good law.

Every once in awhile I think about Keynes predicting a 15 hour work week by 2030 and try to push it out of my mind before I self harm.

Honestly mandatory vacation would also be a great business policy. I can see a perk like that potentially helping with productivity but definitely helping as a recruiting & retention tool.

It's an interesting thought, but get back to work. Those billable hours aren't going to bill themselves, are they?

a big startup in SF just started a 4 day work week.

https://www.sfgate.com/sf-businesses/article/startup-implements-four-day-workweek-16751826.php

you see it quite a bit in manufacturing but generally not the corporate world. I had an internship that was a four day week and I rough ridin' loved it

4x8 or 4x10?  I've worked 4x10 and it's preferable to 5x8 imo, 4x8 would be like the greatest thing ever.

I feel like WFH killed even the 5 day work week for most white collar jobs. I wouldn’t trust it.

Fun fact: we tried “summer Fridays” last year at my work (Fridays off all month of August I think) and it didn’t make a bit of difference in people’s work schedules or satisfaction.

We're officially 5x8. I rarely work that much. Get my crap done and answer emails as necessary. WFH 'rona policy has been huge for me. Nobody even wonders why I'm not in the office.
