If you guys can ever find a way to work strictly remote, I strongly advise it. It’s been a blessing. No office politics, just put up numbers and peace out. Lib, I’m not sure what you do, but you seem good at it. Maybe start applying at companies where their corporate head quarters are not here and kick ass from home if possible.
I disagree with like 90% of what wacky posts, but this is true. Been working remotely for 7 weeks so far and it is fantastic.

Ive worked from home a couple times and am absolutely worthless besides the bare minimum of responding to emails etc, I actually kind of enjoy my office environment.

Last time I worked from home a couple months ago (moving offices) I spent the afternoon pouring concrete to patch my driveway.

It’s different when they know you’re solely remote. Put up or shut up, I think the term is. I sucked ass as well with my old company working from home when everything was in place.

I could work 100% remote but I do enjoy the causal social interaction.

Dream scenario is work 90% of the time from home, 10% from the company office conveniently located near a Marriott (Cat 6 or higher) that is paid for and I get per diem.
Where did you get that overnight bag?

I definitely don't have the self discipline to work from home.

Working from home is great and I think I am more productive than when I was in an office and had to be there for X hours.  Now I get crap done and get on with my day vs knowing I'm at my desk for 5 more hours to go and 1 hour of actual work left.

So 3 separate times from 3 different people in the past couple of weeks I have gotten an email with the greeting “I hope this email finds you well...”  What? Are you emailing me from Valley Forge in 1778?

Is this a normal business email greeting?

Definitely sounds like how a salesperson or someone who does not know you would start an email (I'm in sales but never use that intro for an email).

I do have a fairly large customer who will start every email like this

Quote
Hello ben ji,

I hope you are doing well.

I had a questions on XYZ BLAH BLAH BLAH WORK STUFF

I will respond with

Quote
Hello Customer,

I'm doing great, just got back from a trip to XYZ and had a great time. What have you been up to?

The answer to your question is ABCDEF.

This goes back and forth for a while and eventually I call them and ask about their daughters XYZ thing that they mentioned and say about 10 words during the 10 minute call. I've known this customer for around 5 years and this exact scenario happens a couple of times each year without fail.

SALES 101

Alright guys I need some feedback.

I’ve been at my new job for a little over 4 months now. It was a monster pay bump, I like the people I work with and it’s a really good company.  However, I feel like I’m being under utilized.  I’m really rough ridin' good at what I do and I feel like I could be contributing a lot more.

There’s all kinds of growth and upward movement that will happen in time, but I’m impatient.  Should I just keep my head down and work and just wait OR should I look elsewhere where I could make more of an impact sooner?  I’ve really been struggling with this because I do like where I’m at, it’s just I could be contributing so much more.

how are you gonna explain it in an interview when they ask you why you've only been at your current position for 4 months?

Cash checks and wait for the opportunity to grow there. That's what I'm doing.

Depending on your overall job description and responsibilities 4 months may not be enough time for you and your company to really figure out where and how you fit in and let you hit your stride.  What does your boss say when you mention this in 1 on 1s?

never leave a company unless you've been there at least 11 months is my new motto. it's a motto i adopted after leaving my last company after 6 months.  prior to this motto, my motto was never leave a company in unless you've been there at least 7 months.

talk to your manager. do you meet regularly? If not you should, even if it's just something like a half hour every two weeks. A decent manager will give you an idea of where you stand and tell you to shut up and keep your head down, but a really good one will try to find new ways to challenge you.

Regardless, I'd also suggest going to your manager conversations prepared with specific ways you think you could utilize more of your potential. Managers are generally pretty lazy and like it when employees do the work for them.

Might of been buzzed during the chiefs game and responded to an email from my boss with "Lets get this bread". He was confused

Could have been much worse/awkward.

Buddy of mine at work several years ago was dating a girl with the same name as our boss texted our boss at 1AM.  "I Love you, wish I was next to you" - or something like that.  We still laugh about that one.

This same boss, who I've had at 2 different stops, got a text from a current coworker about a year ago.  He was dating another one of our colleagues with a similar name.  And drunkenly texted our boss, "it was so great meeting your friends and spending time with you.  I love you. blah blah blah"  Earlier he had said he was going to her birthday party so my boss knew who the text was meant for.  Nobody knew they were dating until that text (although we had our suspicions).

Those aren’t as bad as this one dude I know who messaged a coworker accusing her of whoring around.
