Well, I have a nice vehicle now I can use for personal use, and pay no tags, taxes, maintenance, gas.

that's probably worth about 3-5k/year.  it sounds like you wouldn't drive enough to make mileage on a personal car pay off for you.  if you drove more you could make some real money on the mileage.  but since you don't the company car might work out to your advantage.

that's my fear.      I figure that a decent late model vehicle cost is probably $1,500-2000/mo all-in for payment, gas, tags, insurance, and maintenance.    I need something I can haul 2 kids in car seats in.

I'm a little surprised.  They know I have a company car now that allows personal use, and we discussed at the interview that they have another PM who has a company leased vehicle (though he travels a lot) and others had an allowance arrangement.     I wonder if this is something they left out for negotiation purposes.

That's about right if you are buying a $100,000 vehicle.

if you want a car that expensive, and the car they give you would be that expensive, then definitely take the company car.  to make mileage pay you need a cheap car.

Your est. gas cost per month seems ridiculously high. That's at least six full tanks of gas, or about 2,500 miles.

that's based on my current usage, so yes, that should go down.  But for comparison sake I left it.

Gas wont be cheap forever. Regardless, i cant believe one is even in position to negotiate a company auto that's this incapable of making such an easily analyzed decision without consultation.

And we make fun of GPC for asking where to find a good mechanic, or which channel the game is on.
