The KSU Sheep Unit has had a historic reputation for providing excellent educationalopportunities for Kansas stakeholders along with producing top-quality sheep genetics proven inbreeding programs and livestock shows across the country. However, some of this identity hasbeen lost as a result of declining facility conditions and the inability to stay current with today’sadvanced technologies. Upon completion of this facility, the KSU Sheep and Meat Goat Centerwill have the means to regain its nation-wide reputation for excellence in teaching, extension,and research.

There is also a growing interest in the meat goat industry in the state of Kansas. Kansas livestock producers are turning to goats to provide added revenue as well as controlling weeds and invasive plants in pastures used by other animals.

I think my kid would love having one as a pet, and we could all learn a valuable lesson when he has to slaughter it and roast it on a spit.
