TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: steve dave on May 20, 2011, 11:25:29 PM

Can't post this in the subject line because I don't want lurkers to see it, it's THAT bad. Will K-State be moving the sheep and cow pens further North and further away from the football stadium? I respect agriculture and drive by them almost daily but I don't want them near our athletic complexes.
.....
They recently received bids for the new sheep and meat goat facility and should start construction soon. It is located the same spot as the existing one, across form the fire station.

When I think meat, I think goat.
Will we have a facility used for the goats raised exclusively for wedding doweries? Or is that already Alpha Chi Omega? I couldn't ever tell.
-
it's like the ku track...we will always have this
-
Meat goat...the other white Spam. :lick:
-
That seriously sounds like something Earle from the Squidbillies would say. Cracks my crap up.
-
:emawkid:
-
I LOVE the fact that the agricultural aspect of our heritage and mission is on display.
-
It's fantastic. Nothing appeals to urban recruits like goats and sheep a block away from the football stadium.
Albeit the new goat facility is being built farther North up Denison.
-
Yep, they already broke ground on the new one further away from the stadium. As for the North Farm however, there is not a lot of suitable land in the area so that cannot move further north. Plus, that area give great tailgaiting spots that funds student scholarships.
-
Embrase it, folks. Ask any farmer, that's the smell of money.
-

What area is the "north farm"? That's not the land right across the street from Vanier that OB has his eye on for a new practice complex is it?
-
If I'm a top sciencey guy or D.C. dignitary flying into MHK and arriving by private limousine to the NBAF, nothing really says amazing first impression to a big time research institution like a goat meat farm.
:emawkid:

They're goats. They eat tin cans. You could put them in the middle of a god damn rock quarry, and it would be suitable.
-
The western world really underrates goat as a meat, IMO. Mmm. May sound weird if you haven't tried it, but it's good stuff.
-

:emawkid:
I thought they were studying zoonotic diseases??? The goats are there to signal outbreaks.
-
Well, I read the release on the new goat thingy and they claim it is a self supporting enterprise.
-
The house they built looks really nice.

Or to feed the T-Rexes.

Don't be fooled by their tasty meat. If there's one thing the petting zoo at Diana Rose has taught me is that these hateful animals will turn on you.
-
Might as well embrace it.
-
meat goat doesn't just appear out of the air, you have to make it somehow. it's up to k-state to figure out how to rough ridin' do that.

So true, and frankly the closer that is all done to a place where we entertain numerous urban oriented college bound youngsters the better. They'll learn to embrace it as well.
-

Don't tell that to someone from Lawrencetucky. They think all food just shows up with out being grown or raised on farms
-

If KSU can pull this off it will solve the world's hunger problems, and possibly cancer.
-
Those decaying animal feces are the sweet stench of progress. And money for farmers. Embrace it.

Seriously, this is the middle of rural northeastern Kansas and their excuse is "we cannot find suitable land"?!?!?!
Regardless, I am pro sheep/goat farm near the stadium. Let's embrace who we really are...plus its a good location to corral the underage drinkers. It doesn't take long to find a sheep/goat/cattle/horse ranch in MHK anyways...
-
it's like the ku track...we will always have this
It's worse. Way worse.
-
Beem's intense jealousy rears it's ugly head, once again.
-

-
Jardine Renovation, NBAF, Grain Science Center, Pat Roberts Hall, Equine Center, Basketball Training Facility, Bio-Fuels Research/Mill, Rec Center Expansion, if they get the West Side of the Stadium done, that will about about $1.1 Billion dollars worth of construction on that end of campus over a 12-15 year period. Pretty damn impressive.
-
And to think that no other university on Earth has something like our Grain Science complex (which includes the Bio Fuels/feed mill thing, btw) is amazing. Truly a worldwide industry leader.
And I think less than 10 universities on Earth have a BSL-4 equipped laboratory on campus.
Truly elite you are, Manhattan
-

:shy:
-
guys, there is absolute eff-ton of goats out there today
-
i mean, we just drove by it, and..... holy crap.
-
there was a lot of goats, is what i'm trying to say
-
oh and by the way, ok yes, maybe we shouldn't have hundreds of grazing shitting smelly goats so near our football stadium, but people who try to make fun of us for having a goat facility just make themselves look like retards. making fun of an ag school having ag stuff.... har har har
-
Wait, they are putting livestock in a field, in the middle of Kansas? Those stupid sons of bitches! What will the neighbors think?!
-
Goat meat is trending in dc right now. It's the
Bieber of alternative meats.
-
is the kstate meat goat program nationally ranked? any trophs?
-
We're going to need a bigger trophy case!
-
 @ this entire thread..
but the Kansas fan guy, the effing Kansas fan guy
-
Burn down the goddamn goat fields. Makes manhattan smell like crap (and if you tell me it smells like 'money', I will laugh in your hayseed face)
-
Can't hear you laughing over the sound of me counting my goat meat money.

Just an FYI, I've got a pair of cowboy boots made out of goat meat.
:emawkid:
-
is the kstate meat goat program nationally ranked? any trophs?
to clarify, i mean the program overall, not where we may have placed in a couple of good (lucky) years. to me, the tests of a program are consistency and dominance, so what i'm really asking is how consistently dominant our meat goat program is (obviously, facilities are a component of that).
-
I can honestly say that I cannot name a single school with a better meat goat facility or program. When I hear meat goat only one school/program comes to mind, Kansas State Univeristy Meat Goat.
-
there was a lot of goats, is what i'm trying to say
Just think of all the meat goats!
-
Do they sell the meat goat? haven't been to call hall in forevs.
-

I think that Call Hall might, but I haven't seen it at the Hy-Vee.
-
How's this sound for a mascot change: The Kansas State University Meat Goats!!! *rabidmeatgoatroar*
-
I like the goats, and I like them right next to the stadium.

Agreed. Take away your best meat goat era and your worst meat goat era, and that's who you are as a meat goat program.
-
Right now we are in the MGDOD. I like the idea of the MG ranking being a snapshot of the program as it sits today as opposed to using a time machine to examine the MG program as it was before we even knew what we were doing in the MG field. We were basically MG'ing in the stone age not 20 years ago. MG'ing has had epic break throughs that have revolutionized the MG field recently and it's basically a new MG ballgame.

Do we still get to count our MG Helms titles from the white-goat-only era?

Pfff. Of course.
-
I was discussing meat goat with some of my k-state bros like we do and we came up with an interesting idea: why not put additional meat goat space in the old stadium?
-
Soooooo, are we only looking at meat goats? What about the milk goats? Are we :opcat: against milk goats? I really need to know so when talking to my bros about goats in general I know which are the desired goat. Or pygmys or fainting goats (more a noveltie these days).

Sorry, the website www.ibarelyknowanthingaboutgoats.com cannot be found
:shakesfist: Steve Dave you sent me on a wild goat chase :shakesfist:

I heard that K-State is working on some new meat goat/milk goat hybrid. Can somebody in the know confirm or deny if this is true?
-
I enjoy what's happening in page 2 of this thread.
-
SD, just got your eVite to MeatGoat Pak '11. I tried to RSVP but I think a tornado messed up my internet. Put me down for 10.

Check. 10 succulent meat goats reserved for LSOC
-
Another idea me and my bros came up with: Why not have a meat goat refreshment stand on campus somewhere? If you are hungry you can swing by and grab some meat goat to enjoy on your way to class. I mean, why not!?
-
meat goat restraunt where you pick out your own meat goat you would like for dinner and help fund meat goat research at the same time. win/win.
-
Rumors are Guy Fieri is trying to get a look at the new meat goat restaurant for his Drive Ins, Diners, and Dives...Confirm/Deny?
-
in between harley and ft. riley days we could have a meat goat day where we all parade around the field leading our most impressive meat goat to roars from the crowd.
-
Ride Your Goat Day . . . part of the Season of KSTatEO.

I'm in. The goat sale in these parts is Satruday, I'll be picking up a couple nice meat goats, probably a male and female. I'll breed them and sell the kids at the annual meat goat daze, at BSFS.

If not, I need some input as to what it actually tastes like.

OMG, a neighbor to my office has a bunch of these. Some culture of ppl have a deal with said neighbor and a local butcher where on their weekly holy day, they come pick one out, perform some ceremony, then it gets butchered as part of the ceremony.
That guy moves some goats.
Huge cash crop for him.

Not really relevant here. Our MG prgram has really only seen highs, without any real lows.
-
To really arrive as a premier meat goat program, which we all obviously want, consistency will obviously be key. a consistently superior meat goat product. that's k-state.
-
I really enjoy the coast-to-coast hatred/butthurt/jealousy of our meatgoat program. Lol @ those losers referring to us as "the evil empire of the meat goat world." We can't help it that we have enough money to hire all the good free agent meat goats!

I was talking to some dumbass just this morning about the US meat goat industry and how it's really booming right now. That stupid hayseed tried to tell me that there's no money in meat goats. I told him to just take a look at the Kansas State University meat goat farm and asked him "If it's not profitable, then why is K-State farming so many meat goats? Chupacabra bait?"

all the way behind the fire department? :dubious:
-
Kansas State University has seen an increase in our student population with an interest in meat
goats while our sheep interest remains steady.
-
The KSU Sheep Unit has had a historic reputation for providing excellent educational
opportunities for Kansas stakeholders along with producing top-quality sheep genetics proven in
breeding programs and livestock shows across the country. However, some of this identity has
been lost as a result of declining facility conditions and the inability to stay current with today’s
advanced technologies. Upon completion of this facility, the KSU Sheep and Meat Goat Center
will have the means to regain its nation-wide reputation for excellence in teaching, extension,
and research.
My god, I can't even read that paragraph without blushing. how truly elite guys.
-
It looks like we are spending about $1.5 million on this facility. Dax, please make sure you include that figure on all of your totals for K-State's spending, tia.

I've seen literally billions of meat goat barns in my day but this one is by far the most impressive

There is also a growing interest in the meat goat industry in the state of Kansas. Kansas livestock producers are turning to goats to provide added revenue as well as controlling weeds and invasive plants in pastures used by other animals.
I need a meat goat for my yard. I think my kid would love having one as a pet, and we could all learn a valuable lesson when he has to slaughter it and roast it on a spit.

My god. Not a day goes by that I don't hear someone suggest a meat goat way to make money or suggest a personal way to gain from meat goats. One word... give me a rough ridin' break. You are over your head if you think you have a current line on meat goat money making schemes. Just. Give. Me. A. Break. Good lord. :jerk:

If it mows the lawn, I want one too. :opcat:

Interesting bit about meat goat mowers- Goats don't graze, they browse. Whereas a cow will eat the grass down to the ground, goats only eat the top portion of the grass, so they will keep your yard short but not devour it entirely. rough ridin' meat goats are incredible doods.
-
You gotta hand it to the goats jt, they understand the idea of self preservation and reknewable resources. Whereas the dumb old cow just eats right down to the mud.
-
my god, can we just put that thing in the middle of the quad?
It sure doesn't look like the meat goat facilities I grew up with. Now it's all about the almighty dollar. Simpler times I guess.

The Meat Goat is a false idol.
All I know about it is that A-rabs love them some goat meat, and they have all the money the Chinese haven't taken. If this were 1966 and they were filming "The Graduate," the guy would have told the Dustin Hoffman character "goat meat" instead of "plastics."
-
The western world really underrates goat as a meat, IMO. Mmm. May sound weird if you haven't tried it, but it's good stuff.
Goats = most widely consumed mammal meat in the world. True fact. We should move the facility CLOSER to BSFS.
-
I think our aggressive move into the meat goat market can really be summed up in two words: game changer.

True story about meat goats:
My Dad was an insructor at the CGSC up at Fort Leavenworth (Petreaus was one of his elite students). There was a Saudi Arabian officer in one of his classes. Two times my Dad got called by the police because this guy slaughtered a goat in his driveway and was using a hose to wash the blood into the street. He had to show up and explain Middle Eastern culture to the hayseed cops and smooth things over. Anyway, this Saudi was uber rich. Probably from his dealings in meat goats.

9 more K-State alumni from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait after spring graduation.
Talk about a potential conduit to meat goat markets and investors.

Imagine the diplomatic implications! We should start some sort of student exchange with universities in rich Arab countries. We teach them the finer points of meat goat production and they give us oil. (Or build us a giant golden meat goat palace.)

Yeah, it sure does make you think about back when we were all just in it for the love of meat goat. Now with the millions and billions of dollars involved it's turned into an all-out arms race. Just makes you wonder where does it end?

If they’re not out there running around and constantly grazing, if it’s brought up in a way that’s not right, that body of meat is going to be tougher. It's got to be relaxed and able to do its own natural processes."
You know our goats are going to be chilling all over the KSUMGF, doing their own natural processes.
I am thinking of changing the MOAP to a meatgoat pak.
-
I hear ya! Unlike crazy GOP, Goats are very understanding and loving. Have you ever seen a picture of Jesus Christ with a goat behind his back? It’s all over every Catholic Church on the planet. That tells a lot about the cute personality of goats and their holy bond with the Son of Living God. Have you seen Dick Cheney petting a goat in your life? Narh!

There is a goat that lives in the woods near my house. He watches me in the morning but runs when I chase him. I will catch him with a rope or a trap and eat him some day. Maybe he got off a truck?

That sounds like fun, but I'll put my meat goats up against your wild meat goat in a taste test any day of the week.

Where in the hell do you live and how can I buy some land there?
Seeing a naturally processing meat goat in the wild would be the ideal way to start my day.
All I get are these weird albino squirrels sleeping in the tree outside my office every morning.

To be honest, they kind of scare me, like I am in the Twilight Zone. I like to think that one of them is Rod Serling.

* The Sheep and Meat Goat Facility. Taussig, facilities manager for the project, said construction is in the initial stages and should be completed by December. The new facility will be located north of Kimball Avenue on the west side of Denison Avenue, which is just north of the existing facilities, he said. It will include animal holding facilities, a large classroom, an animal treatment room and a 5,600 square-foot multipurpose room.

FYI, Texans love them some meat goat. If it's young they call it cabrito.
Shultzy once again ahead of the Conference Armageddon curve. I'm assuming that we'll be funneling meat goat by the truckload to Austin to keep our place at Texas' side assured. :ksu:

My folks just bought a house in a neighborhood that has community stables. Rumblings that one resident houses goats there that are used to work with his prized sheep dogs. Guess goats are harder to herd than sheep. Really looking forward to getting a closeup look at these goats and gauging their meatiness.

Was training my bird dogs the other day and I was about to send one on a cast down a tree row when I saw a bunch of meat goats back in this pasture. True story.

Anybody else note the distinct scent of meatgoats that the northerly breezes were blowing into BSFS last night?
I think this will be our little ace in the hole during negotiations to join the Ohio Valley Conference.
:kstategrad:
PS. Do we have a MeatgoatTM T-shirt design yet?
