Title: meat goat facility

Can't post this in the subject line because I don't want lurkers to see it, it's THAT bad. Will K-State be moving the sheep and cow pens further North and further away from the football stadium? I respect agriculture and drive by them almost daily but I don't want them near our athletic complexes.
.....

They recently received bids for the new sheep and meat goat facility and should start construction soon. It is located the same spot as the existing one, across form the fire station.

When I think meat, I think goat.

Will we have a facility used for the goats raised exclusively for wedding doweries?  Or is that already Alpha Chi Omega?  I couldn't ever tell.

It's fantastic.   Nothing appeals to urban recruits like goats and sheep a block away from the football stadium.

Albeit the new goat facility is being built farther North up Denison.

Yep, they already broke ground on the new one further away from the stadium. As for the North Farm however, there is not a lot of suitable land in the area so that cannot move further north. Plus, that area give great tailgaiting spots that funds student scholarships.

What area is the "north farm"?  That's not the land right across the street from Vanier that OB has his eye on for a new practice complex is it?

If I'm a top sciencey guy or D.C. dignitary flying into MHK and arriving by private limousine to the NBAF, nothing really says amazing first impression to a big time research institution like a goat meat farm.

They're goats.  They eat tin cans.  You could put them in the middle of a god damn rock quarry, and it would be suitable.

So true, and frankly the closer that is all done to a place where we entertain numerous urban oriented college bound youngsters the better.   They'll learn to embrace it as well.

Seriously, this is the middle of rural northeastern Kansas and their excuse is "we cannot find suitable land"?!?!?!

Regardless, I am pro sheep/goat farm near the stadium. Let's embrace who we really are...plus its a good location to corral the underage drinkers. It doesn't take long to find a sheep/goat/cattle/horse ranch in MHK anyways...

Jardine Renovation, NBAF, Grain Science Center, Pat Roberts Hall, Equine Center, Basketball Training Facility,  Bio-Fuels Research/Mill, Rec Center Expansion, if they get the West Side of the Stadium done, that will about about $1.1 Billion dollars worth of construction on that end of campus over a 12-15 year period.   Pretty damn impressive.

And to think that no other university on Earth has something like our Grain Science complex (which includes the Bio Fuels/feed mill thing, btw) is amazing. Truly a worldwide industry leader.

And I think less than 10 universities on Earth have a BSL-4 equipped laboratory on campus.

Truly elite you are, Manhattan

to clarify, i mean the program overall, not where we may have placed in a couple of good (lucky) years.  to me, the tests of a program are consistency and dominance, so what i'm really asking is how consistently dominant our meat goat program is (obviously, facilities are a component of that).

Right now we are in the MGDOD.  I like the idea of the MG ranking being a snapshot of the program as it sits today as opposed to using a time machine to examine the MG program as it was before we even knew what we were doing in the MG field.  We were basically MG'ing in the stone age not 20 years ago.  MG'ing has had epic break throughs that have revolutionized the MG field recently and it's basically a new MG ballgame.

Do horns have any positive or negative effects on taste when it comes to meat goat?

 :crossfingers: <----hoping "No!"

Only if you grind the horns into a chowder and put them in the meat like some hayseeds do.

Is goat what is in Gyros?   :dunno:  If so, we should double our doubling of the facility as it is delish.

If not, I need some input as to what it actually tastes like.

Need this answer before I drag race/publicly sex up any one.

That's lamb.
a lamb is a goat without horns.  meat goat gyros sound fantastic.

Interesting bit about meat goat mowers-  Goats don't graze, they browse.  Whereas a cow will eat the grass down to the ground, goats only eat the top portion of the grass, so they will keep your yard short but not devour it entirely.  rough ridin' meat goats are incredible doods.

My Dad was an insructor at the CGSC up at Fort Leavenworth (Petreaus was one of his elite students).  There was a Saudi Arabian officer in one of his classes.  Two times my Dad got called by the police because this guy slaughtered a goat in his driveway and was using a hose to wash the blood into the street.  He had to show up and explain Middle Eastern culture to the hayseed cops and smooth things over.  Anyway, this Saudi was uber rich.  Probably from his dealings in meat goats.

True story about meat goats:

My Dad was an insructor at the CGSC up at Fort Leavenworth (Petreaus was one of his elite students).  There was a Saudi Arabian officer in one of his classes.  Two times my Dad got called by the police because this guy slaughtered a goat in his driveway and was using a hose to wash the blood into the street.  He had to show up and explain Middle Eastern culture to the hayseed cops and smooth things over.  Anyway, this Saudi was uber rich.  Probably from his dealings in meat goats.

I'm going to do this in Rick Daris' driveway before the first football game....like a saudi arabian boss

The hell

my god, can we just put that thing in the middle of the quad?

It sure doesn't look like the meat goat facilities I grew up with.  Now it's all about the almighty dollar.  Simpler times I guess.

Yeah, it sure does make you think about back when we were all just in it for the love of meat goat. Now with the millions and billions of dollars involved it's turned into an all-out arms race. Just makes you wonder where does it end?

Front page of CNN. Looks like the new facilities couldn't have come at a better time. Best of luck to Jessica Wilson: Elite NYC meat goat restauranteer.

You know our goats are going to be chilling all over the KSUMGF, doing their own natural processes.

I am thinking of changing the MOAP to a meatgoat pak.

I hear ya! Unlike crazy GOP, Goats are very understanding and loving. Have you ever seen a picture of Jesus Christ with a goat behind his back? It’s all over every Catholic Church on the planet. That tells a lot about the cute personality of goats and their holy bond with the Son of Living God. Have you seen Dick Cheney petting a goat in your life? Narh!

There is a goat that lives in the woods near my house. He watches me in the morning but runs when I chase him. I will catch him with a rope or a trap and eat him some day. Maybe he got off a truck?

That sounds like fun, but I'll put my meat goats up against your wild meat goat in a taste test any day of the week.

Where in the hell do you live and how can I buy some land there?

Seeing a naturally processing meat goat in the wild would be the ideal way to start my day.

All I get are these weird albino squirrels sleeping in the tree outside my office every morning.

To be honest, they kind of scare me, like I am in the Twilight Zone. I like to think that one of them is Rod Serling.

* The Sheep and Meat Goat Facility. Taussig, facilities manager for the project, said construction is in the initial stages and should be completed by December. The new facility will be located north of Kimball Avenue on the west side of Denison Avenue, which is just north of the existing facilities, he said. It will include animal holding facilities, a large classroom, an animal treatment room and a 5,600 square-foot multipurpose room.

FYI, Texans love them some meat goat.  If it's young they call it cabrito.

Shultzy once again ahead of the Conference Armageddon curve.  I'm assuming that we'll be funneling meat goat by the truckload to Austin to keep our place at Texas' side assured.  :ksu:

My folks just bought a house in a neighborhood that has community stables.  Rumblings that one resident houses goats there that are used to work with his prized sheep dogs.  Guess goats are harder to herd than sheep.  Really looking forward to getting a closeup look at these goats and gauging their meatiness.

Anybody else note the distinct scent of meatgoats that the northerly breezes were blowing into BSFS last night?

I think this will be our little ace in the hole during negotiations to join the Ohio Valley Conference.

PS. Do we have a MeatgoatTM T-shirt design yet?
