Vegas

yes also a great suggestion. I did a Thanksgiving trip there although more than 3 days is a long time.

Add day trips to Hoover Dam or Valley of Fire.  Or a couple days in SW Utah.

Great suggestions friends. Vegas is actually an interesting option. I hate Vegas but have only been for bachelor party type trips. Easy flight from KC too.

Also, WTF HB?

Yeah we actually did three days in Zion on this trip too. I think we did 2 nights Vegas, 3 nights Zion, 1 night Vegas. The last night in Vegas was like "ok we get it".

Hoover Dam was also part of a Vegas day and is great.

this was wonderful: https://www.caesars.com/flamingo-las-vegas/shows/piff-the-magic-dragon

I was staying at Flamingo last weekend and openly questioned who goes to that show.

Honestly it was fine for adults. Was like a funny PG-13 magic show

I hope you do. Please report back on whether or not your kids enjoyed it at their age. Trying to determine the youngest age a child can enjoy NOLA so I can take my daughter there as soon as possible.

I think kids generally would enjoy trolley rides, second line bands, beignets, fun costume shops, children's museum, audubon zoo, etc quite a bit

I'm pushing this a bit. The other option is Phoenix area and rent a house with a pool. My kids will always pick that option, but it seems boring. I'm on the fence a bit though. House/pool is way easier, but I prefer exploring a new city. I'd much rather do that without kids though.

Low international travel IQ question. My final destination in Europe is in the Schengen zone. If you connect through London, you have to go through security in London, then you have to go through customs when you get to the destination in the Schengen zone. If I connect through a Schengen zone country, I only have to do customs at the connecting airport.

Is it better to try to avoid connecting through London to a Schengen zone destination because of the extra hoop or is the in-transit security through London efficient enough that it doesn’t matter?

I went on a cruise with my parents when I was around 14 that left out of new Orleans during spring break. We drove all through the night and when we arrived around 7am my parents drove us through bourbon street while they were hosing off the streets/cleaning up the debauchery of the night before. We ended up walking around for a bit later in the morning and all I remembered was lots of beads and shirts with boobs.

Hope this helps.

I took my daughters when they were 8 & 6 and they loved it. We rode the streetcar, did a flat bottom boat gator swamp tour, Carousel Gardens, & French Market. One night had a friend hook us up with her babysitter so we could go out alone.

There's a mardi gras float museum that I've always thought would be fun for kids but I have never made that trip with kids so I can't say for sure.

It's worth doing. It's not a polished museum really (assuming you are talking about Mardi Gras World) it's the work site where they build them and you just walk through the warehouse after a quick movie. Depending on the time of year you are there in comparison to MG you'll see floats in their level of doneness. A month or two before to a month after you'd see them most done obviously.

trim, think I may be taking the family to an Astros Mariners stand in Seattle in April. which of the Hyatts is the best one for my demographic? Thompson, Olive, Grand? we will be doing all the usual seattle tourist stuff one does.

t-y

You here the weekend before to tourist or just the weekdays of the games?
Monday through ??. May stay whole week. Definitely not weekend before because we have a baseball tournament. Possibly weekend at the end.

From my perspective, they're all pretty close together and negligible as far as what would be most convenient to things, but I'm used to walking everywhere.  It'd probably be the same w/respect to uber/lyft.  But to the extent you care, Grand would be closest to the stadium on a straight line as well as to a light rail station.  Thomson wouldn't be too much further to the stadium and closest to the tourist waterfront and pike place.

I've stayed at Olive 8 and Grand.  My instinct would be that Olive 8 is the quietest/calmest, might have a better pool setup, there's condos on top of the hotel that share the amenities.  Grand more business-oriented.  Thompson maybe more adult (?) or trendy; they've got a rooftop bar.  Probably a little rougher at times in that area and could force you to have the fentanyl talk w/your kids sooner.

I can help you with some less-touristy-but-still-tourist good things.  Any of those hotels would be fine for anything you'd want to get to beyond the stadiums.  It'd be like an 8-block difference max among them.  If it happens to be false summer right then, I'll get you all out on the good water in my fleet of inflatable boats and paddleboards.

Aside from those 3, there's hyatt house near space needle (not cool) that's more residential.  The downtown Regency might be the newest and is kind of in concert w/the convention center.  Probably in between vibe-wise between Olive 8 and Grand.

If our downtown hellscape is too scary, the Regency in Renton could be good.  It's on the shore of the south part of lake washington and come spring (not sure if by April) there's a dockside bar/restaurant that's fun to hang at, and suburb stuff like top golf, shopping, etc. pretty close.

TY very much for this. My kids and I will not be doing the Thompson then. Olive or Grand seem like a winner. I'll hit you up if we do it for a game if you want to watch my kids Astros whip ass.

There’s a standing area under the outfield bleachers where you can get real close to the bullpens. I helped winters heckle tf out of the mariners when those guys came out for a royals series.

For at least one of the gamedays, I can probably get away and get you all on the water taxi that docks on the downtown side not far from the stadiums and goes over to west Seattle. Really good and easy way to get on the water and see some cool stuff from the boat and get you to a beach and then right back where you need to be.

Doubtful you’d see them in the wild at that time of year in seattle. Looks like there are tours in the islands up north that run in April but I’m skeptical you’d even see them doing that. It’d be getting on a float plane from the lake near where you’ll be and then getting a boat where that plane takes you to.

New aquarium opened recently in the waterfront tourist area, no clue if it’s worth it. There’s also a place I took winters to when we needed a break from drinking where you might see some in the wild stuff, it’s where the salmon get from saltwater to freshwater and seals or sea lions hang there to pick them off easy.

trim, think I may be taking the family to an Astros Mariners stand in Seattle in April. which of the Hyatts is the best one for my demographic?

As a fellow Ken Griffey Jr. fan, I recommend a walk through the hall of fame/museum. You will for sure get a nostalgia boner. Also, the kid statue in front is the best infront of stadium statue in baseball. I have a super elite pic of him with a Pearl Jam shirt on from a concert several years ago that makes me very happy and would have made high school me explode.
