I'm planning a trip to New Zealand's south island for ten days next April.  Anyone ever been?

Gonna rent a car.  And go all over.  Plan to stay at a couple of these.  https://canopycamping.co.nz/find-your-escape

I'm open to advice on how to use my points.  I've got around 213,000 points.  Use them on flights?  Hotels for when we're not at canopycamping?

Sokoon looks cozy af.
My winning smile and can-do attitude.

Yes, but it was 2009, so things have no doubt changed.  Spent time in Queenstown, Christchurch and Kaikoura on the South Island and Wellington on the north. All were great. Christchurch less interestingly so. Tons of international tourists and service industry folks in Queenstown, but for good reason, it’s beautiful.  Kaikoura was an awesome quiet beach town, with mountains right there.

Guys I did it!! We made it!!! Overnight flight was a bit rough but everything was smooth overall. Got here and chilled for a bit and I went booze hunting. Got some beers and green wine. Found a good dinner spot and Mrs SF and I killed said bottle of green wine and some beers and we all overslept this morning!! Whipped Lisbon’s ass all day today doing touristy stuff.

Also Phil! I wanted to kill everyone at this point and I told them all if I didn’t get my rough ridin' cherry shot, the trip was over. Mrs SF got 3 cherries in hers and I got 2 but she almost threw up and I lol’d so I won in the end!!!

Not much of a wine drinker but it is pretty great. It’s weird seeing it on the menus for like 8 euro and they just drop off the whole bottle.

I%u2019ve been there, and the South Island is beautiful. Renting a car is a great idea to explore all the spots. Canopy Camping looks super cozy, especially Sokoon.
For your points, you might want to use them on flights to make the trip more comfortable. You can check out cheap business class tickets at https://travelbusinessclass.com/air-france-business-class . Flying business class can make a big difference, especially on long flights.
For hotels, use points when you're not at Canopy Camping to save some cash.

Phil!!!  No idea if you gave me this rec or not but O Velho Eurico was top 3 fav restaurants ever!  Just a delightful small place that had amazing food, drinks, and one of those places where people write on the walls and the waitstaff gets crap housed, but takes care of you still. Really fun place and the food was fantastic.

that wasn't me but it's on my list now! The place I recommended would have been Cervejaria Ramiro or Baía do Peixe if you go out to Cascais via the tram. That 2nd place has unlimited seafood.

Paradise Valley between Gardiner and Emigrant, about 20 miles north of Yellowstone. I took this shot from just above our cabin on the Yellowstone River.

Thanks Rusty. It was terrific and a fun place. Favorite place by far.

Phil, we went to your place in Lisbon too. It was great. The waiter loved Lil SF. He ate 37 kilos of sea creatures and beat the absolute crap out of crab and lobster with his hammer.

Currently having booze drinks here in Carveiro. This is my current resort chair view.

Also, Mrs SF and I almost legit died in mosh pits at the festival. It was wild. I’ll post in the concert thread at some point. To avoid any confusion, I and specifically Mrs SF try and avoid mosh pits at all costs. Avoiding was not an option.

I’ve had some great experiences with private charters. Last summer, my family and I decided to fly to a remote island for a vacation. We booked a private charter, and it was incredible. No long lines, no stress—just smooth sailing from start to finish.

What really stood out was the space we had; it made traveling with kids so much easier. They could move around freely, and we didn’t have to worry about disturbing other passengers. Plus, the crew was super accommodating, even letting us bring some snacks onboard that we wouldn’t have been able to take on a regular flight.

My Hanalei rental house rooster and cat are fuckin’ squaring off. Also the cat ate a lizard earlier which was pretty brutal and my kids went wild. Also after spending the last couple days at Hanalei Bay walking back here to stare at this dang tropical mountain and waterfall with a Hawaiian crispy boy(s) has been pretty much tops.
