Just whatever comes up on the ol' algo. Mostly been focusing on Japan thus far though. It's very much helped my food apprehension which is my biggest hang up with traveling.

I recommend the Korean Englishman and Jolly.

I haven't been to Korea but I think Thailand or Vietnam could give you more of a variety to compliment Japan than Korea, just because they aren't as developed

only been to Thailand and Vietnam. Loved them both. Pick your favorite of their cuisines and go there and enjoy.

I’m going to Boston in a month when the Royals are there. Traveling solo, staying in Back Bay. Please hit me with your best food and drink recommendos.  TIA!
I was in Boston last week for work and stuck around for the Yankees whipping that ass on Friday night.

High school buddy took me to Citizen Public House for pregame. Thoroughly enjoyed a dozen oysters and some fizzy water. They have an amazing bourbon collection that my buddy sampled. If I was to fall off the wagon, I'd want to do it there.

Boss and I mowed down a pizza pie downtown at Halftime after we finished our week of meetings. Wasn't the best and probably doesn't live up to your Chicago standards.

Other places I ate were out in the burbs with clients. Burton's (nice gnocchi) and Tavern in the Square (delicious wings and buffalo cauliflower).

You'll find an absolute shitload of restaurants around the stadium. I definitely want to return and try several of them.

Vietnam probably has the safest cuisine. Banh mi and pho and vermicelli* are all pretty mild (or can be). Can also get like a pork chop and eggs at a bunch of places

*(can't remember actually eating this in Vietnam)

The red light bar district in Bangkok was so freaky creepy with old American dudes getting fawned on by lady(boys?)

Went to a ladyboy show that was impressive!

What sex tourism is in Vietnam? Just the old Vietnam war tropes?

There aren't really red light districts out in the open but there are a whole bunch of prostitutes if that's what you consider a Vietnam war trope. The gross drunk Aussies or old Americans would know where to find them but I'm sure a white man walking around at night would get propositioned quite a bit. Kinda surprised if you didn't

I don't remember being out late in Vietnam and always with a bunch of ladies. We were on the American side of ho chi Minh

We did get talked into a supposed ping pong show in Phuket by some old sleazy American supposedly from KC which quickly realized was a scam and left.

I am a novice Japan/SE Asia YouTube viewer so I don't know how worthwhile this channel is but it is one that I am aware of:  https://www.youtube.com/@AbroadinJapan

Have you checked it out yet?

Lyria from Gare deLyon => Basel. Then a local train to Luzern.

Also, a highlight of this trip has been the joy one of my little Croppings gets when she gets to use the French she has learned on duolingo to help order things in shops and interpret signs for the rest of our family that understands zero French.

I wouldn't go so far as to denigrate le Louvre. But Musée d'Orsay is pretty elite, in terms of "modern" art.

Rick Steve’s says he enjoys Orsay>Lourve and that settles it for me. I saw the line at Lourve and said there is no way I’m attempting that. Orsay was crowded enough but it was worth it to have the radiant glory from Monet’s _Impression, sunrise_ touch my retinas.

Eiffel Tower was more incredible than I had imagined. I was actually most impressed just walking around the base of it (but the view was also awesome).

Update: one of the Croppings had motion sickness x2 b/w Basel and Luzern. Poor cub. Resting out of the rain in Luzern now.

I went to this ridiculously expensive $40 burger place in Lucerne and they messed up the order twice. It was like Johnny's level.
