I will have an entire afternoon to myself in LA next week. Somebody point me in the direction of the best fish tacos (doesn't matter what area, but I will be in West Hollywood that evening). TIA everybody

so jealous.

just go to Best Fish Taco In Ensenada

This was great. I had 2 fish, 1 shrimp. Also saw John Hawkes there as I was leaving.

Well, you can do that in a lot of Colorado too, which is a lot closer for most people

Basically anything but Gregorian Chant.

Going to San Francisco with the wife over Memorial weekend. Open to suggestions on things to do and places to eat, etc.  Obviously, we'll hit the high points on the tourism  list, but if there are other can't miss spots, let me know. Neither of us have been before.  :bwpopcorn:   :drink:

Dottie's True Blue Cafe for breakfast. Get there super early because the line gets out the door fast.

Take the ferry to Sausalito if it's a nice day.

Do Golden Gate Park.

Just walk around and booze it up. That's what i do when i'm in a city i don't know and it's worked pretty well so far.

I would do this first (or something similar):

http://www.grayline.com/San_Francisco/Sky_View_Tour_-_Aboard_Open-Top_Double-Decker_Cable_Car

It's as touristy as it gets, but takes you to a lot of neighborhoods around the city and you can kill a lot off your list pretty quickly. I haven't been but my wife has and said it was great. If you see a neighborhood that looks like fun, come back later. You can really kill a day just hanging out somewhere like the Haight or Chinatown or North Beach or Golden Gate Park as Eurocat mentioned (the fly-fishing pools are cool). Yelp is your friend because every place has a shitload of reviews. SF has such a wide range of neighborhoods that appeal to different interests that it's hard to recommend something without knowing what kind of scene people are into. If you are into music I can point you to something.

The two safe bets I can recommend that should appeal to almost anyone are the Beach Chalet (a brewpub) on the...beach at the end of Golden Gate Park and Chowder's on Pier 39. For chowder and an Anchor and a toast to Kat Kid.  Also renting bikes, riding across the Golden Gate Bridge to Saulsalito and taking the Ferry back is popular. Eat here in Saulsalito: http://www.plateshop.net/

Elite travel tip: Use www.timeout.com. Scout places out online and then pick up the print magazine when you land.

The Buena Vista for a couple of Irish coffees at the corner of Beach & Hyde. Sit at the bar if you can.

also, I forgot about the cable cars. seems like an obvious choice, but they're great. Chowder at pier 39 followed by a cable car ride is probably my favorite touristy thing to do. I look forward to it when someone visits that hasn't done it. (but i dread alcatraz)

Staying at the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf (on points, duh). Don't have a car as of now, but would consider it for a day trip. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I was there a couple months ago and took one of those bus things around town (not that one tho, mine was a lot more expensive). We hit every neighborhood in the city and the guide was spitting facts the whole time. Totally worth it.

The most fascinating part about San Francisco imo was China town. There's the part where all the white people go, but then there's the part when I forgot what country i was in. Was there during the Chinese new year. It was a trip.

Fishermans Wharf is mostly a tourist trap so i wouldnt hang down there too long. There are some good restaurants tho.

Really cant go wrong tho with whatever you do
