taxi

i know i'm :kstategrad: and all, but it would be 60 euros from the airport to hotel. looks like it would be 5 euros apiece to get from LHR to hotel stop on the tube and walk 5 min to hotel.

actually 2.90 apiece as it would be off peak.

yeah, that sounds like a good plan for you.  I'm not hauling a wife and luggage on a 45 minute tube ride though.

Best way to go about this?

Booking a room at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale beach resort (1 night), planning on using starpoints. The starpoints room is "limited view" - not beach view. Of course I want beach view.

Can't wait for this to turn into a discussion about Saul's prospective trip to Ft. Lauderdale (south florida).
Discussion will be limited to the topic at hand.

T-Y,

Saulbadguy

the westin is nicer and better location but also 3k more points. go to elbo room and have drinks. also got to pirate bar and have drinks and play with the washer on a rope game they have. ask the bartender to walk the plank.

I will have an entire afternoon to myself in LA next week. Somebody point me in the direction of the best fish tacos (doesn't matter what area, but I will be in West Hollywood that evening). TIA everybody

so jealous.

just go to Best Fish Taco In Ensenada

if you're in Santa Monica/Venice, check out M Street Kitchen or Border Grill or Tacos Por Favor

if you're a big fan of The Hills, go to Spanish Kitchen

there's a ton of great taco places in LA, check the food trucks/stands, might be easiest

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

JFC don't take a black cab from LHR to central london. It will cost you about £70. Actually i did on Friday night but the immigrations line was really long and i wanted to salvage my friday night.

It depends where you're going, but i love the Heathrow Express. It just depends if your location is near Paddington or convenient to there.

Heathrow Express is really the only sane option into greater london. i'd say getting a oyster card would be your best bet - refundable deposit+any unused balance is refunded 100%, no worries about having to purchase any other tickets.. £1.50/journey for zones 1-2, and for "heavy use" days it will charge you a max of £6.50 per day, so if you take more than four trips that day, you're essentially riding "free". buy at any tube station, get your refund at any station... so much easier than the travelcard if you're within the city.

tourists like steve dave waste a lot of money on cabs because they are afraid of public transportation.

oh gmafb Krusty.  who has two thumbs and rough ridin' runs the NYC subway system?

It's about the value of my time and minimizing hassle, opportunity cost.  If I'm spending that amount of points/money to get there and leaving the office for 2 weeks a half hour of my time there is worth $100 to me.  Add to that the less hassle and it's an easy decision for me.  Obviously everyone's opportunity cost is different.

You won't save a half hour. But you will avoid robbers and other unsavory types. Which is nice.

pfffft, english robbers, "please sir may I have your wallet"

I always thought it was kind of one of the fun parts of traveling to figure out a new city's public transit system and go 'xploring  :dunno:

I spent a half day getting from CDG to one of my friend's houses near Versailles with a semester worth of luggage, was horrible, but I had a great story
I'm purple down

EC, we're staying right near Leinster Square just north of Hyde Park. Difficult to get to from Paddington?

If you mean Leicester square it's east of Hyde Park. Should just be one change on the tube.

Hilton Head starting Wednesday, should I stay out at the HH Westin through Monday or go into Savannah on Sunday and stay there.  I fly out of Savannah on Mon.  I have never been to Savannah.

well if you've never been some place (savannah) then I guess I'd probably go there just because.
