We asked voters on this poll whether they think interracial marriage should be legal or illegal- 46% of Mississippi Republicans said it should be illegal to just 40% who think it should be legal.

What a raging issue this is.  Glad to see all your other problems have been solved.  'specially since you're so quiet otherwise.  I guess there really are no words.

No, not really.

It's a bigger issue than Libya, that's for sure.

Why did they only publish the results for Republicans?  Southern Democrats were the ones fighting the civil rights movement, so I assume number was higher.

That's a good question. I'd like to see the numbers for the democrats and the numbers for the state as a whole, regardless of political party.

Because it was a survey of 400 Mississippi Republicans that was mostly about the Republican primary?  2011 Southern Democrats would probably not oppose interracial marriage by a larger margin.

I googled and was unable to find a similar poll question, but I would expect it to get asked now.  However, considering the 2008 primary results that gave Barack Obama (the product of an interracial marriage) a majority of voters were at least were willing to vote for an interracial president.

If it helps, you may want to look in to the "Civil Rights Movement" and "Dixiecrats."  Let me know if you need any help with your research, and be sure to report back on your findings.

God, Republicans are so effin racist.  The only reason they disagree with Obama is cause he is black.  Also, that is why they want welfare reform and do not support the healthcare bill.

Its 'cause they hate black people.  Such close-minded neanderthals clinging to their guns and bibles.

They hate arabs too, that is why Bush and Cheney tortured them.

Considering that the poll was conducted by a Democrat strategist, so I don't expect the question to be asked of democrats.

Have spend a dece amt of time in MS over the last 30 yrs.  lots of civil rights butthurt down there still.

Completely unrelated to politics.  Many down there are so matter of factly about it still.  Different world(and not the popular tv show from the '90's.  pretty much the opposite of that).

The lack of slavery crippled the Mississippi economy, and the civil rights movement got rid of the "Well, at least I'm white" talking point, so that attitude isn't all that surprising.

Kansas has plenty of  :opcat:, but no way would more than 10-20% admit it openly in a poll like that.
