Past high steel prices had more to do with China.

Well, maybe more accurately, our reaction to China.  But yes, domestic supply and demand analysis is ill advised.

Its always the fracking Chinese  :curse:

Despite this latest development, does Currie continue to crap on actually building the practice facility in this article or am I just too jaded?

KU Grads and quality Arch/Const are unable to exist simultaneously.

Isn't ISU second in the Big 12(to KSU) in the program that spits out folks who manage this stuff?

Answer: yep.

Why outsource to a KU grad?

OK...was it an ISU or ku grad who mastered the suspended rectangle, and the flags simultaneously blowing in opposite directions in the artist's rendering of the stadium improvements?

the suspended rectangle is actually a window to heaven.  God loves watching ISU get trounced in football.

That's a 10% reduction in the money the state gives the KSU athletic department.

Since athletic facilities are state property, the state gives KSU athletics X amount of dollars every year to to pay for facilities maintenance and for maintenance staff.

This is NOT a cut in the athletic budget.

10 guess how much 10% of what the state gives KSU athletics is.

How does the price tag of this practice facility compare to others recently done?

I'm guessing the ISU one is some type of pole shed, so that's probably not a good comparison

you would be correct, deez. photos during construction (85% complete)

qft, Currie very much like an bad person parent right now who doesn't want to commit to saying 'yes' to their kid.

"We NEED a bb practice facility."
"I'll think about it."
"No seriously, we have to have one. Now."
"Listen, I said 'maybe', ok? We'll see." *pats head of lowly ksu'rs*

the chosen architect on this project should ease your concerns. Populous (formerly HOK) is probably the foremost sports architecture firm in the world. These guys don't cut corners or slop up half ass projects. with the ball in their court (pun intended) I'm supremely confident well be getting one of the most elite facilities in the country. with steel prices what they are, the 20 mil will go a LOT further than it did 5 years ago too.

Didn't HOK do the East side of the football stadium?

In the one article I got a "i've seen this movie before" kinda deja vu thing going . . . I wondered if Currie was channeling Weiser.

One day it's all but a done deal . . . the next, the hedging and the hmmming and hawing start.   Just like Timmy.

Don't blame HOK for the East Side of the Football Stadium . . . place that squarely on the shoulders of Mediocre Max and the clusterf_ck team of people running the K-State athletic department at the time.

why did you have to bring that up  :bang: i want to puke every time i see that danged structure. they waisted so much fracking money on the structural design on that thing.  i still  that one day we can tear that stupid crap down and do it over the right way

It was modeled off the expansion of DKR Stadium at Texas, it's just that Mediocre Max cut out oh . .  . the entire backside, and the ramps, and the restrooms and well a bunch of stuff.

K-State had the ability to float over $10 million more in bonds, but Medicore Max was too  :ohno:

Tell us what you would do differently.  Besides adding tinkle machines, of course.  I am really into daydreaming about grandiose stadium improvements.

basically the structure was truncated because the back end (away from the field) was done away with. so by the time the architects cram everything that's left forward (toward the field), the freaking thing wants to overturn (tip over) onto the field. this is what caused the crap fest of expensive steel connections in order to make the seats cantilever over. not mention we probably wasted money on the precast conc.

^this. I didn't follow KSU during the time when the east side went up, and am generally blitzed when I'm in there (not concerned with architecture or amenities). What should have been done instead?

Also has anyone found out how many storage closets will be available in the new bb practice facility? tia

basically the architectural floor plan should have extended back almost to the edge of the parking lot, and included all the amenities a project like this should have. then the structure would have been much more efficient in resisting the overturning onto the field and cost less money (for a larger building). like SoDJ has stated it was Max at his finest.

— Transparency, please.

Didn't realize he was being secretive about it? Curious what Haskin meant by it.

Umm . . . somebody needs to tell Haskins that you pretty much have to go to the Regents with that stuff, there's no being secret about it.
