Were doing a lot of talking about a new screen above Vanier but you know what I really want?  LED ribbons.

YES!!!  I've been looking at that east side wondering where they are going to move the retired jerseys, or whatever the hell they have, when they put in east side and west side LED ribbons when the expansion is completed.  If there's no ribbon boards I may throw a SkinnyBenny type fit, I won't but you know what I'm sayin right?

We do have a nice board one of the biggest ones in college football, if you don't want to look at the video board in the NEZ don't sit at the top of the SEZ

 

what is the total size of the south end zone "video board"?  what is the size of the south end zone "video board" that actually shows in game highlights? 

if kstate has the whatever number sized "video board" you were bragging about i would be willing to bet we waste more size on the scores and advertising than other similar sized "video boards" making it a marginal at best "video board".

We do have a nice board one of the biggest ones in college football, if you don't want to look at the video board in the NEZ don't sit at the top of the SEZ

The same company makes all of these video boards, daktronics.  The video board components are virtually the same, high school, college, or pro even their baseball boards have similar components, see the board at The K.  Every school has a ton of signage on their video boards, the ads are the primarily purpose of the boards, to generate additional signage and ad revenue, hayseed.  Have you been to another stadium outside of Manhattan, KS?

I've been to games in every stadium in the Big XII except for A&M, Tech and BU.  The most notable videoboards were Austin, Norman, Lincoln, and Lawrence (b/c I was there 4 days ago). 

Oddly, I don't remember any of the video boards dedicating 33% of the screen to the scoreboard (score, time, down and distance, etc.).  Even on replays, the video is reduced to 66% of the entire screen. 

Well, forgive me for asking, but why the eff do we have a massive board if we only show vide replays on a portion of it? 

We've got plenty of room for zip-tied advertisements along our field level gate

OMG, would take.  Then we could, like, use them to put up the scores of other games sometimes too?    If we did that we could utilize our big video board for 100% of the screen to zoom in on Li'l Baby Lockett's adorable face.

Seriously?  You think they charge the same amount for advertising on the video board as they do for the metal signs attached to the SEZ?  If/when we get ribbon boards they also will be installed to generate additional revenue.  Are you advocating schools not take the additional ad revenue just so the replays can be full screen instead of 75% of the screen?

“We need to elevate what we look like,” Currie said. “There’s a great deal of interest. There has become a realization comparatively. Missouri has done a great job, Kansas has done a great job, Oklahoma State, where we go in two weeks, has done an incredible job of transforming their stadium. Iowa State has done a great job. When you look across the board, the bar has been raised.”

What exactly the structure will look like or feature is not yet known, but Currie and K-State president Kirk Schulz have said they have toured similar facilities at Texas Tech and Minnesota for inspiration.

Schulz has said there is a high demand for additional club-level seating. Currie wants the new press box to enhance the university as a whole. He wants a structure that can be used for much more than football. Ideally, he envisions athletic and academic staff meetings taking place there, and being able to rent it out for private events such as wedding receptions.

“It’s not just keeping up with the Joneses in how we look,” Currie said. “It really gets back to functionality and creating a revenue environment. It becomes providing space within a facility that is usable year round instead of six times a year.”
