No, the new soccer/football fields are grass only.

AstroTurf Gameday Grass fields all look like garbage after a few years.   The new FieldTurf products do not.    But it doesn't help that Snyder practices on it every day because the blades are designed just like real grass blades.

I just assumed we also didn't ever use the practice fields because Snyder's paranoia with people being able to watch practices there.  I figured with the new soccer field and stands (?) that would block people being able to see in from the street on the west.  If they aren't going to use that area, they should just built an elite place for the players to live over there and plan on buying new turf at BSFS every 2 years.

We also have only played a couple games total on grass the last 5 or so years (zero last year), this year there are 4 games on grass.

I'm sure that has something to do with preparing for games to HCBS.

then they should put turf on at least one practice field.  I seriously thought that is what was going to happen, but I also thought they were going turf at the soccer field also, so either I remember wrong or they changed something.

Completely agree.

And if I remember correctly, turf was in the plans because it came up in the women's soccer thread about how many people are dying every day from turf soccer fields. (maybe that's what changed their minds)

The grass fields were cut to two for room for an eventual soccer stadium and dressing room/office facilities for soccer.   I think that's the plan.

Something about tire companies putting cancer in their tires, then they use the ground up cancer tires for the rubber pellets in the turf. When it gets real hot the cancer comes out and gets in cuts/scrapes and eyes and ears, etc.

(this could be inaccurate)

it's 2016, can't they make fake grass without needing crushed up cancer tires?

The soccer turf/ grass debate has lots of issues that are different than a football turf/ grass debate.

The ball moves differently on the surface.

Players are more likely to be strained/ get injured from running on turf.

There's something with the rubber pieces as well.

Heat is also an issue sometimes if I recall correctly.

I don't think any soccer player out there actually prefers playing on turf.

Many turfs are FIFA rated for ball roll, Gmax and other factors.

Here's the thing, nobody gives a rats ass about soccer. Whatever they do over there, football practice should be the primary concern. Soccer should consider itself lucky they aren't playing at the softball fields at city park.

Seems like a very KU plan.

Will there ever be a new indoor facility north of Kimball with a ped bridge from Vanier? I think it was Mizzou who did something similar to keep the practice facility close to the stadium.

No.  Future plans appear to be in east lot for a new facility (somewhere down the line).
