Are band kids really joining the band because of the vantage point the band has for football games anyways?  If not, then what difference does it make?  K-State doesn't owe future band kids anything.

To deny that bands add to the atmosphere is ridiculous. When they play the Wabash or the fight song or whatever, the students respond far better than when they hear something over the sound system.  I wasn't in a college band, but it is enjoyable to watch them become part of the game day.

in all honesty the Athletic Department would make more money per game if the POWL didn't exist.

This might be true if you just sold the band's seats for a couple games, but overall I think you have to admit a band can do a lot for entertainment and homefield advantage which is tough to quantify per game, but could have a huge effect on attendance (and hence bottom line) over time.

But the band can just as easily do that from the sparkly new NE corner. The argument seems to be that the band has earned the best seats in the house because of their "work, energy, and time."

The front row, behind the opposing bench, at the 20, I assure you is not the best seat in the house.

Well I stand corrected! Wherever the best seats in the house are, the band needs to be moved there ASAP. They've earned them. Club level? We can't ask these hard working kids to slum it in the corner.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Not only that, but many of the student seats are primo locations.

ICAT, yes.

Let's start with the priorities. We need:
(1) As many students at the games as possible (noise, spirit, growing the fanbase and future donors)
(2) Maintain the tradition of the the best student seating in the Big 12 (for same reasons above)
(3) More money for athletics

These are the goals, right? With these in mind, shouldn't we:
(1) Increase SGA funding by at least double
(2) Move band to the corner, because why the hell are we parking the band in prime real estate?
(3) Keep the base student GA ticket prices the same, but maybe increase ICAT prices.

if you move the band from prime real estate, the only consideration should be to a place where they can be heard better throughout the stadium. Because unlike the other students, the band doesn't leave games early, or miss a game, ever.

If there is one group of people who deserve prime real estate, it is the band. I'm fine moving them, but don't act like some drunk frat boys deserve those seats more.

This

Drunk frat boys huh, smelly band geeks seem a bit inferiority complex-y. No one deserves anything but people actually paying for a seat are higher on the hierarchy than someone who doesn't.

i would disagree. the amount of work, energy, and time that the band gives, is worth more than the $200 or whatever an icat student pays for passes.

Nobody is disputing the "work, energy, and time that the band gives," but I disagree that that's worth $200 to the Atheletic Department. You know what's worth $200? $200. This isn't a slam on the band - I love those Jayhawk felatio forming little fuckers - but they're not paying for their seats, so why would we give them the most expensive seats in the house? :dunno: Move them to the corner, where they'll be as loud, if not louder.

Its worth more dumb dumb
they have to report 6 hours before the kick to get the show rehearsal done before the team gets the field........band provides the fans with the parking lot crap plus cat town........then they do the game, half time and play the alma mater after the teams leave.......so there another 4 hours plus........

are they worth $15-$20 buck an hour ? .........it's reasonable to say yes to all of that
$60K+ per game is far from reasonable.

This is ridiculous. We obviously need the band. The band is being offered a spot designed specifically for them where it can best serve all the fans. It would be beyond stupid not to put them in the NE corner. The band can no doubt be distracting but students can pick up the slack. They aren't as obnoxious as a horn but I've seen several teams try to trash talk/ get annoyed with the students behind them, never seen them upset with our band.

CF3, I like having the band in the stadium. Bands are important to the college gameday experience. I just think it's silly to not move them to a corner that can be designed just for them and will probably allow more people in the stadium to hear them. They could have a pretty sweet setup over there.

my opinion is the band should be placed wherever they can best be heard by the most people. some engineer could figure that out pretty easily i'm sure.

From my elite upper deck seats I heard South Dakota's band blasting away all game long but hardly heard a peep out of our own band.  Either point the band in a direction so more of the stadium can hear them or just get them mic'd up.

LOL at the dorks ITT who think that its unfair they are missing out on a few marginally better seats with their iCAT tickets at the expense of the band.  Such an injustice.

Whether ICAT or GA, paying students should get the better seats. The band will be perfectly fine in the corner, and might even prefer it.

have we ever determined what we do with our profits?

I don't think we have profits. Joe Schmoe (actual name, not made up) made a donation to the Ath Dept of $500,000. He will contribute this money over five years, $100,000 at a time. K-State reports $500,000 of "income" but only actually receives $100,000 in cash. K-State spends that $100,000 and reports it as "expense".

$500,000 income
$(100,000) expense
$400,000 "profit"

look, a paltry $500k is nothing more than a symbolic show of support from SGA to our AD.
currie and the AD would be fine without it.  but what kind of message does it send if they cut it off?  currie has done a lot to improve the fan experience and although the students also support the AD through ticket fees, what's an extra $20 per student in student fees if it means strengthening the relationship between the student body and our AD?

I thought the goal was to have the ad be 100 percent self funded. Do these student fees count?

The goal is not to use University funds. Student fees go directly from the students to the Ath Dept. A University subsidy comes from the University's general fund. K-State no longer has that subsidy. Compare to Cincinnati (to pick a random example) which has total revenue of $59.1 million, of which $27.1 million is a subsidy from the University, or about 46% of their total budget.
