Big 12 champs with 7 juco starters on D.  Seems like that should be an easy sell to a juco D player.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink

Kids make what seem to us as stupid decisions all the time for what seem like stupid reasons. To me if a player right now picks ku over ksu then they were too dumb to play for us anyway. But that's just me.

What the eff are you talking about?

Mangino beat Snyder in 2004 as Snyder's recruiting was failing following high level success on the field, we squeaked one out at home (we scored 12 points) in 2004, then Mangino beat Ron 4 times in a row.

Two major things happened when Snyder's recruiting went into the tank the first time.

1) He couldn't recruit a capable QB to follow Ell.  We had Allen Webb and Dylan Meier.  Neither of them were good enough.  We now have Daniel Sams.  More than good enough.

2) He recruited a bunch of guys that didn't/couldn't qualify, and we were getting 50-70% of an actual recruiting class for a number of years.  The biggest example of a lack of depth from that was our patchwork OL's those years.  It was beyond awful.

Snyder recruit a bunch of no-name guys isn't what screwed us up. Snyder not bringing in players and recruiting a decent front-line QB killed us last time.  If we have Sams/Waters next year, we aren't in better shape than we were this year, but we're in better shape than we were at any other point since 2002.

Sometimes Elite Programs lose out on kids (especially JUCO kids) to Cesspools like KU because the Elite program has depth, wheras the Cesspool, the JUCO player feels like he can resonably expect to play a large roll in 24 games, as opposed to hoping to see the field as a Sr.

Just sayin

This, we missed on some but what hurt us the most, especially in that 2004 class is people did not show up. And the ones that did, most of them were not solid contributors. If you look at those classes it looks to me that we started to go after more higher ranked kids and less of the kids we build the program up with. Unfortunately those high ranked kids did not pan out or tried to steal Bill's Balls.
RIP Fatty

At what point are people going to stop with the 2004 crap?  Don't you think those two years have been proven to be an outlier?  I remember arguing with people when he first came back and all they wanted to focus on was was his last two season.  I said you had to look at his tenure as a whole and the record pretty much spoke for itself.  Their counter was all that mattered was his two most recent seasons.

Well now we're back to focusing on stuff that happened almost ten years ago rather then the 20 plus games we've won the past two seasons.  I guess things have come full circle.  At least with going 21-4 the last two years  we no longer have to suffer through the minions quoting Snyder's "recent" record. Go ahead and cherry pick it to include just back to 04 and 05 it's still pretty darn good.

Only in a sense of "only year we have been able to use a Big 12 'ship as a recruiting tool".

Our recruiting under Snyder has been bad by most of our standards, but it's worked. Time and time again. So I'm really not too worried.

Don't care if  :powerespect:

meh, love the '04 comparisons but they are the work of clowns.

the '13 team will return 7 or 8 starters on offense (including the entire offensive line) and will likely add a player or two who can contribute right away.  The '04, or '05 for that matter, team really didn't have that electric running dynamic at the QB position.  It is possible we'll have two guys who can do that with Sams and a potential Marshall commit.

You might make a few comparisons to the defense but I would let this class unfold before doing so.  I really don't see a Blake Seiler type (240-250lb walk-on) lining up as a starter at DT.  Me thinks we'll have better corners than Louis Lavender and safeties better than Jesse tetuan and Marcus Watts.  I mean it's highly likely that 3 of the 4 starting positions in the secondary are FS-Zimmerman, SS-Evans, CB-Riyahd Jones....

this isn't '04.  stop with the shenanigans.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

I think Winters and I are just surprised there wasn't someone else more deserving of making an All Big 12 team.  The kid has the skills to be good, he just wasn't this year.

I agree that others were deserving, but if his first impression on us wasn't the Baylor game I don't think anyone would have an issue

Among some calls last night I ran across one individual who has contacts at Garden City CC.

Those contacts indicated that LHC Bill Snyder has told Marshall that he is their guy.

Obviously they are still recruiting Jake Waters too. When there are two recruits at the same position you always wonder what ranking they are for the K-State coaches.

I've known the guy I talked to for nearly 20 years so I trust him and it isn't like I just stumbled into someone.

With Marshall, you don't have to change anything you're planning to do with your game plan.  Sams or Marshall can do the exact same things, athletically.

If you have to go with Waters mid-game, or vice versa, you're going to have to change your approach because Waters can't do what Sams can on the ground.

My preference is Marshall for that reason, but it's not like Waters would be a bad get at all.  The guy is obviously talented.
