Wait, wait…so now we’re offering luxury scholarships?  Is that like a grey shirt?  LOL.  And now we’re playing the offers game?  Seriously?  Who did Darren Sproles get offered by?  Isn’t that the company line?  The Snyds just eats coal and poops diamonds?  It shouldn’t matter who offered, it should matter that we wanted him and didn’t get him.  It isn’t like we’re filled up with scholarships and have to throw back all the fish that are just jumping aboard the KSU Titanic.

Really think you would enjoy gopowercat.com more.

on opposite day?

People would appreciate his incoherent ramblings more. Might see if Fitz will comp him a sub.

Obviously we did offer the guy and wanted him.  But you're going to offer maybe 4 or 5 kids at the same position and you know you won't and can't take them all.  For all we know Combs was our number 1 DT or for all we know he was number our 4.  At the end of the day I don't know that it really matters that much which kids we get as long as we get some of them.

I mean is the Moore kid that KU got a better LB then the kid we got from Coffeyville?  I'm sure KU is happy to have that kid and I'm happy to have the kid from CCC.   We offered both so I'll assume both have the tools to play at this level.  My experience tells me there is about a 75% chance the kid coming to KSU ends up being a better player then the kid that is going to KU.  That has nothing to do with who is the better player right now and everything to do with the system and coaching they are coming into at their schools of choice.

Well, if that's what you believe then it's an apples to oranges comparison. You should be giving the odds of the kid coming to KSU ending up being better than what the kid who committed to KU would have been had he committed to KSU.

Mods, can we get a thread about recruiting and a thread complaining about recruiting?  I'm tired of trying to sort through both.

It's a luxury ask, but you know.  I'm just curious.

The odds he would be a better player after two years at KSU then he would be after two years at KU are nearly 100% assuming he bought in and stuck it out.  Of course there is no way to ever know for sure but that is my opinion.  I mean would Vai Lutui have been a second team all big 12 DT if he would have gone to KU?  I'm gong to venture to guess no way in hell.  When was the last time KU had a DT make second team all big 12 and they've had a lot of kids more highly touted then Lutui roll through.

I don't get too meltdowny on missing on a recruit. I get more  :excited: when we land a good one. I am not saying this is the way for everyone else, it is just my way.

The Manhatter:  Britz can and does play 3-technique on occasion for us.  This play stuck out in my mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=D4eQXNUuhNk#t=68s

One of the best individual effort defensive plays of the year.

K-State recruiting under Coach Snyder is a great way to define insanity as Albert Einstein put it. He we have the same coaches doing the same things as far as recruiting and expect them to all of a sudden land every kid they want. Hell there are only a handful of school that can even do that people.

But I've heard from people more connected to the ins and outs of recruiting than myself that Combs is a long shot to qualify by the time spring semester begins at KU.

Now, Combs will deny-deny-deny that he's in danger of graduating at the end of this month or early January, but I've heard stories that even Dave Campo himself looked the defensive tackle straight in the eyes during his official to Lawrence and basically told him, "Looking at the transcript, I don't see any way you finish on time."

We're also talking about the same defensive tackle who scared off a coaching staff to the point they pulled his scholarship for fear that Combs didn't have the "work ethic" to be successful at the major college level.

I will not detail which program this is, but it's not Kansas State, so don't start that rumor.

Anyway, does any of this matter anymore for us and the Cats? Probably not. We'll move on and find someone else, someone who could very well end up as a better get than the 4-star Combs. But I thought I'd share regardless.

Are you talking about the fans or Snyder being insane?  I'm guessing he knows he's not going to land every kid he wants and he's not too terribly upset about landing the recruits that just won us a big 12 title.   What evidence is there that he needs to change anything?

Expecting people to change behaviors when they're like 50 or 60 is an unreasonable expectation, FWIW.

Maybe, just maybe, the staff got like a silent commit from this Delva guy.....and thus.....maybe.....they told Combs to F-off and go to KU? :dunno:

I am hoping something like this happened, otherwise are recruiting continues to suck :jerk:

Well, it sounds like Combs has an incredible work ethic and is a future Big 12 academic all american.

I'm going to be upset if we don't get Delva.  Beating teams like Oregon State seem like a good litmus test in my eyes.

If you read the Meek article on Combs, it seems like he was the guy that wanted to start the whole "Dreamteam2013" thing and get the four of them together.  So, odds were they all wanted to go to the same school and KSU didn't want the four man package.  So, as far as I'm concerned, that closes the book on Combs.  He was trying to be Robert Nkemdiche and bring a bunch of his boys with him, but there's no way KSU signs off on that.

Delva, Hardison, Nash, and Meant would be a fantastic set of commitments.  Even if we just got Delva, Nash, and Meant it would be a great set of DL.

And, yes, I watched Combs video and Delva's video, and Delva is better.  Combs is good, but Delva is better.  Hardison is just a next level guy.  Jason Pierre-Paul next level.  Immediate two year starter and potential 1st/2nd round pick.  He's tremendous, and as Hatter has said, Meant's video is really impressive.  You just have to think he's a qualifying risk because a guy THAT good with two stars is head scratching.  Probably very similar to the Josh Moore situation, which I think he referenced earlier.

Big 12 champs with 7 juco starters on D.  Seems like that should be an easy sell to a juco D player.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink

Kids make what seem to us as stupid decisions all the time for what seem like stupid reasons. To me if a player right now picks ku over ksu then they were too dumb to play for us anyway. But that's just me.

What the eff are you talking about?

Mangino beat Snyder in 2004 as Snyder's recruiting was failing following high level success on the field, we squeaked one out at home (we scored 12 points) in 2004, then Mangino beat Ron 4 times in a row.
