Way to shut down the borders Bill!!

Being serious here.  Why is there a thought that schools should be able to "shut down the borders" and get, in our case, "the Kansas kids?"

Do people think that 17-year-olds have state pride or something?  There's a handful of possible economic/geographic reasons I can see for some kids wanting to stay close to home, but if I'm a recruit, I don't give a eff about going to the state school.  Give me good weather and fancy stuff.

I think it's more a benchmark for "get every elite athlete who actually lives 150 miles from your rough ridin' campus" then maybe try and get some others.

Yeah, but I'm thinking beyond this one situation.  Why are we entitled to "Kansas kids?"  Is it based on an old-fashioned premise that the further away from home you recruit, the more expensive it will be, and thus schools will naturally focus on and have an advantage with kids who are - based on economics - being recruited hardest by the local schools?

Sure.  So, OSU is in the exact position we are for a kid from Wichita, invisible line south of arkansas city be damned.

We are very far from "exact same position" as OSU right now.

No doubt.  I mean that nobody should think that we get some sort of leg up in recruiting a "Kansas kid" just because KSU is located in Kansas.

We're not entitled to everyone in Kansas, and I have never said kids should be loyal to K-State.

But as far as K-State goes, this is not just a one here, one there situation, this is a now a trend, a long term trend.

This staff has a horrific close rate on in-state kids desired by other schools.

What else infuriates me is all of this, "well, they've got T. Boone Pickens" Bullshit.   T. Boone Pickens Stadium fka Lewis Field was an absolute dump, that was literally crumbling to the ground.   While they were literally trying to keep the place from crumbling to the earth in a steaming pile of rusted, twisted steel.   We could have been building all the player facilities they have now, and it wouldn't have taken $200 f_cking million dollars.   But instead, we let LHC Bill Snyder rule, and instead what we got was a minuscule cosmetic addition to the North Side of Vanier, the remodeling of a handful of areas, a bunch of flat screen TV's and some new carpeting and fixtures (just enough money was spent to NOW make it very hard to justify tearing the whole place down and start over, LHC Bill Snyder couldn't be happier).   Its nice, that's it, its nice, its not a head turner, it isn't going to wow any kid . . . and despite all the stamping, stomping and screaming by the Powertards, when you package the winning, aggressive recruiters/young coaches with state of the art facilities, K-State is going to lose more times than not.   All this BS about "Great People" is just lip service BS from most of the kids to make us or most K-State fans feel better about themselves.  Its 2012, and kids want 40 sets of uniforms and Ipads in the lockers, and Taj Mahal dressing rooms . . . and apparently they want it rammed down their throats by relentless recruiters who don't play the "go whatever way your internal intrinsic values tell you to go" . . . 18 years have to be sold and sold HARD!

Unless this can be explained better, I don't care what our close rate is on in-state kids, desired by other schools or not.  I care what our close rate is on kids desired by other schools.

Well, based on my research that isn't good either.  It may get a little better this year, but up to this point if you looked at our recruits and their listed offers it was pretty un-impressive, so our close rate against other schools is kind of hard to say.   Hell, we have a hard time landing kids getting recruited by Texas State and Arkansas State.

I understand the in state argument.  we have better access to the local kids and most take a lot of unofficial visits before eliminating us (which is even more damning).  their coaches go to coaches clinics at KSU.  The kids camp at KSU.  doesn't really apply to OSU or OU though as all but the KC kids have just as easy access to OSU and OU as KSU.

I don't care why we lost him. I'm just sick of it.

Maybe if Bill would hire decent recruiters and not his jerkoff kid and old guys,  we'd be in a better spot.

I'm just sick of this crap and want it to change.

It's rough ridin' awful.  The kid's biggest desire was to have an elite level jumping track coach. Well, we have the most elite on there is by a mile.  We just have to hope OSU fills up their class quickly so we can get to work on the leftovers.

Yeah, that was the only rationale I could think of earlier but I think that it becomes more and more outdated every year, and that explains why we suck at recruiting.

The realization just hit me that this anger is probably minor compared to what I'll feel when Kincade chooses someone else.
