Bill telling coaches not to recruit yet the RC is the prob?
A general lack of emphasis on recruiting is a major problem. Our staff's collective age is a problem. LHC Bill Snyder's overall philosophy of starting walk-ons over more talented players is a problem.
The whole thing is a freaking problem.
I think Bill got burnt by recruiting at the end of his first run and that soured his entire view of it.
Then he comes back and guys like Klein and Zimmerman develop into high level players even though they were not highly recruited. Granted, transfers Brown and Harper were a big help as well. All together he still coaches a league title team that was in the NC running until November.
However, this recruiting philosophy eventually catches up with you, especially with injuries. I think Bill and staff is good enough to recruit a few top level guys and then develop the rest, but as we have continually seen throughout Bill 2 we simply don't have enough depth of talent or developed players to absorb major injuries. Bill can win at a decent clip the way things are, but the ceiling is now probably 2014 type seasons.
Bill's age hurts us a lot and the combination of his recruiting philosophy with the unknown of how long he's going to be here makes it really tough to recruit and keep players committed.
All that said, I'm not going to call for him to be fired. He's not going to be around much longer and I'll let him finish out his career on his terms. I don't think it hurts K-State's long term prospects much, I just hope that Currie has a good plan for when he's done.
