247 article on Kylan Johnson's commitment

Athlete Kylan Johnson (Dallas/Skyline) verbally commits to Kansas State.

"I think coach (Bill) Snyder is a good coach and I can get to my full potential there," Johnson said. "I like the atmosphere there. Their fans are crazy. It's a big family. I think it's a good school with not too many distractions."

Johnson chose the Wildcats over offers from UCLA, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Memphis, Iowa State and Washington State.

The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 86 athlete and the No. 142 prospect in Texas in the 2015 class by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings.

Johnson (6-3, 200) feels he will play strong safety or outside linebacker on the next level.

From ESPN insider

It's not a huge visit weekend in the Big 12 with most programs having the bulk of their class locked in and most recruits already committed to the school of their choice.

Yet Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas are among the Big 12 schools that will be hosting prospects that could end up filling a need or stand as one of the top signees in their Class of 2015.

Kansas State hopes to add a little English

LHC LHC Bill Snyder’s program would like to finish its class with a commitment from DeSoto (Texas) defensive tackle Bryce English. The three-star prospect is set to visit Manhattan, Kansas this weekend and boasts offers from Memphis, Arizona State and others. English, a one-time commit to Texas and UCLA during the recruiting process, would be a solid get for the Wildcats. KSU already has five defensive line commitments in the class but English could be the ideal prospect to headline the group. English is probably not a "must get" recruit for the Wildcats but he's the type of prospect that could blossom in KSU's family atmosphere.

Darreyl Patterson ESPN prospect report

OVERALL TRAITS

Size-Strength-Speed
Patterson is gifted with the most important quality and that is height. His weight can improve as he matures and gets into a consistent weight program. He plays with solid strength as he is a good tackler and will leg drive to create extra yards when he is running. Speed is good as he can chase down ball carriers when he is a defender.

Ball Skills
Demonstrates he is comfortable around the football. He runs well with it as a back and when used as a receiver displays good hands and a good ability to respond to the ball in the air. He adjusts and judges it well.

Versatility
Is an effective ball carrier, a receiver out of the backfield and a DB. It is conceivable he could be considered for any of these spots depending on the school recruiting him. Most likely, if he adds weight, his future is at safety.

Big Play Ability
His instincts dictate his best spot to be a big play player is as a DB. He is a good RB but lacks the specialness the great one shave. His instincts show up more as a DB.

Bottom Line
Patterson is a quality athlete with versatility that makes him a coveted recruit. Most likely he will make a mid-level power conference school a solid safety in the future.

Got some Mohamed Barry in him.
I give KITNfury's solid gold guarantee that the large majority of tucks would ignore this and celebrate his commitment.

too bad the weather blows this weekend.  Bryce English was in San Diego last weekend visiting SDSU, and it was 79 all weekend, the warmest weekend in the last 2 months.  I don't think we'll lose him to SDSU, but the cold weather may deter him and have him prefer a Texas school instead

but I have faith in CJ Reese to show him a good time

He's a damn wrecking ball. Basically a major TX HS version of GearBear/Origami Rose with another 30#. I'm glad he didn't bit that referee in the face while executing that adorable freak-out celebration.

Something about "Honey Bear" seems more cuddly as opposed to "The Chamber" which sounds scary as crap.

From Jake Trotter at ESPN

Question: @Jake_Trotter What under-the-radar Big 12 commits do you expect to have an immediate impact?

Trotter: I like K-State running back commit Alex Barnes, who is just a three-star prospect. LHC Bill Snyder doesn't like to play freshmen, either, but Barnes has the size to help a backfield in need of help right away
