randy bennett. would take over most of these clowns. People say he hasn't gotten a better job because he's kind of a butthole. He would probably be at the very top of the burn the mother down with everyone in it list. I found that article before I hit "post"

http://www.thedaily.com/page/2012/03/05/030512-sports-wolken-column-1-3/

so bennett has pretty much dominated everyone but gonzaga. tied for first last year and won the conference outright this year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Bennett

Its probably highly illogical, but Asbury actually makes me a bit apprehensive about a guy like Bennett. Can he translate success at a tiny private west coast school to Kansas State?

That said, he's definitely worth looking at.

all his good players are from australia

I hated oscar so this coach is out.  DO NOT WANT AUSTRALIANS

I can see why Buzz isn't leaving

Marquette   Big East   Buzz Williams   $2,834,685   N/A   $2,834,685   N/A

1.987 mil of that was a one time extraordinary bonus for retention fwiw

I'm with Rusty.  Recruiting is going to be about 60% of K-State's success imo (maybe higher).  20% is Xs and Os and 20% is the last 4 minutes of close games.  I think you can get assistants to help you cover that last 40% if you really need it

recruiting should be more like 95%, coaching doesn't really matter but I'll throw it a leftover taco that i wasn't going to eat anyway and give it 5%.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

I don't know who I want K-State's next coach to be, but I do know that I don't want him to go all neck-bracey on us.

Neck-bracey candidates (people that would suck or leave early) include: Pastner, Buzz, Mack....crap. It's everyone but Underwood. Our next coach is going to be Underwood.

I don't give a crap if they leave early.  Come, make a name for yourself by being successful, leave the program better than you found it.  The only way we have someone successful stay long term is if they are a K-State grad or they are really ugly.  Do not want either (except maybe Stallings and thats not happening)

I only care about recruiting

why?

recruit well and good things will happen no matter what. I also think it's the easiest way to evaluate "unproven" coaches. If I'm an AD, I'm asking a candidate to name their top 5 relationships with AAU programs, examples of under-the-radar recruits that exceeded conventional expectations, examples of recruiting victories over "better" programs, and examples of recruiting losses and why the losses occurred. IMO everyone that is a D1 Head Coach or assistant is competent at "x's and o's" because basketball is a brutally simple game and 9 times out of 10 talent wins out. What truly separates coaches are their recruiting relationships and approach.

For the sake of continuity, I would vote we set up the OOD to have the benches like Vandy.  I think that provides a really underrated advantage
Trim had a very good stance on these benches as we watched one of their games.

Don't remember but I'm sure it was correct.

I 100% agree that "long term-ness" should be at the bottom of any list of criteria for a coaching hire, and probably not even on the list.

That's really good scoop, thanks.  Reminds me of last April's conversation of is your base your salary or is your base + bonuses your salary.

god damnit _fan. what does this mean? you either want him or you don't. i swear to god you people need to stop talking about what someone is worth. you guys did this crap with frank when he was still a coach here and it was wrong then too. "well he's already making 1.55, i mean maybe bump him up to 1.8 but not 2.0. i mean i don't think he's worth that much." it was stupid then and it's just as stupid now. stop.

I think we should offer Izzo or Calipari or somebody like that $6 million per year or so. I mean seriously what is the difference between $2 million and $6 million? Not that much.

If you're keeping track at home, the answer is $4 million.
"Ever heard of that one, Stan?"

Xavier   A-10   Chris Mack   $484,399   N/A   $484,399   N/

We throw $2mill at him, guarantee he will listen.

Also, thoughts on Mike Brey at ND? He's only making $570k. And you know he's clean being all catholic and stuff

Those guys both make way more than what is listed. Probably at least 1.5 mil for each.

I agree. He's also recruited 3 first round draft picks in one year, was a Harlem Globetrotter, and is learning from Calipari. He would be the home run of all home runs now that Pearl is off the table.

He's also from the Dominican Republic, so he might be able to continue our tradition of getting adorable international student athletes.

In 1988 he took a bullet to the head and then played ball just 2 weeks later.

He looks like a puppeteer in this photo.

I agree for the most part, but think coaching is key in the last few minutes.  Basically, this is burned into my head based on when we went from Wooly to Huggs.  That maybe an extreme example because Wooly was monumentally inept in those situations, but that is mainly my only concern x-o's wise

And the X coaching tree is fantastic: Gillen, Prosser, Matta, and Miller.

20 NCAAs since Gillen arrived in 1985.

The problem is X coaches don't seem leave for places like K-State. The last 3 have went to Wake Forest, Ohio State, and Arizona.

It would take 2 Mil or more, and even then...
